- From £194 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 719 reviewsA fantastic hotel experience. I booked this for us as part of a trip showing my family from overseas the UK. We came here after 2 days in London and it was the perfect way to decompress and relax after a hectic time in the busy capital. When we arrived the scenery was breath-taking and walking through the main lounge with the real fireplace and comfortable, stylish furnishings we knew we made the right choice for a hotel. The rooms we booked were lovely and clean, our room had a beautiful view and the comfiest hotel bed we have slept in. The staff were friendly and approachable, they managed to provide a high end hotel experience without us feeling we were out of place with their friendly attitude. One of the waiting staff even offered to take a group photo of us when she saw my Grandfather attempting to take one which was lovely. The 3 course evening meal was fantastic and well presented and the bar had some lovely drinks options which were added to by the charming pub a 5 minute walk away in the nearby village. We all had a lovely time and I had to drag my husband away so we could check out and explore the Lakes! We are already planning to return and bring my in-laws with us. This is the best hotel I have stayed in so far, huge thanks to all involved.Guest review byLinda ZarLatvia
- From £138 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,545 reviewsWe spent only 1 night in the hotel. The double and the single beds were comfortable with a clean toilete. The hotel has a big parking area but if you cant find any you can still park on the street for free. There is a path 10 minutes from the hotel into the mountain. The full english breakfast was delicious definitely worth it. I can highly recommend the hotel if you would like to spend a few days in the lakes.Guest review byGaborHungary

The hotel has been recently renovated and our room was beautifully decorated with a fantastic balcony view. Excellent food in a perfect peaceful location with walks from the door. Many thanks to Sue and her team, we can’t wait to return.Guest review byJaneUnited Kingdom
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 490 reviewsThe rooms and beds are above the average British standard and the food is way more healthy than the average British standard, so that’s good. If you are willing to pay a pit more per room, I guess it‘s worth it.Guest review byUllrichGermany

This is the place to unwind, take in the amazing 360 scenery. Theres loads to do, walks, hike, rent bikes, kayaks, paddle boarding or just sit and watch the world go by. I ate at the restaurant Id booked The Glaramara hotel, they prepare exceptional food, my time was taken with hikes up Herons Pike, Scafell Pike and a good long walk around the Derwent lake. It’s a place that asks for your full attention and rewards it with a deep sense of peace. For me, Borrowdale isn't about what you do, but about what you feel—a sense of solitude and connection to something wild and enduring. I left feeling quite emotional and cant wait to return.Guest review byPatrick_AlexanderUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Portinscale is ideally situated on the shores of Derwent...
Portinscale is ideally situated on the shores of Derwent Water with fantasic views of the lake and the fells. It is perfectly situated for a short walk into Keswick with all its facilities and public transport for access to the rest of the Lake District, or you can take the launch across the lake or catch the bus. From Portinscale there is easy access to walk around the lake and there are 2 Marinas for boating, canoeing and paddle boarding. The café is and lovely and covers a full range of meals at reasonable prices. It also sells a few essential catering essentials. There is a pub and hotel in the village which both serve food. The staff are all very friendly but as at April 24 both establishments require investment in facilities and food quality. The village of Braithwaite is also close , it has a small shop for provisions with 2 great pubs/hotels that are very popular for food.Guest review byElizabethUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Easy to get to shops in Keswick. Good food at the Lakes Distillery and Chesters near Ambleside. Good low level walks around Grasmere. A visit to the gingerbread shop in Grasmere is a must but watch for the traffic wardens if parking outsideGuest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Keswick is a very interesting town, full of great places to eat and drink. Loads of shops that sell just about everything you can imagine. A short walk to Derwent water where you can book a lake cruise or even hire your own small motor launch. A short drive takes you to Grasmere and further along to Windermere, and for the really adventurous there are the magnificent peaks to climb.Guest review byAndyUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Ideal for fell walking at all levels.
Ideal for fell walking at all levels. Some great hikes in the area such as Glaramara and Dale Head. Buy the Cicerone guide to find out more. One piece of advice is to do your research thoroughly before setting out. Take a map and compass, or have your route all planned on a GPS app. Some of the paths suddenly fork and if you take the wrong one, you can waste a lot of time and effort getting back on track. They generally don't have helpful fingerposts in the Lake District.Guest review byGeoffreyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Very nice area just outside the hubbub of Keswick. Great start point for bus, walking, cycling or car journeys. Is on a bus route and Cumbria trail way. Access to marine activities, walks and lake cruises Cafe, pub and hotel in village. Not forgetting coffee guy on path out of village to Keswick. Felt peacefull after a day’s activity.Guest review byAudreyUnited Kingdom - 10.0
