Pretty River Views, Quick Visit: Inverness has a small, walkable downtown with a few highlights—the river views are pretty, the old architecture is charming, and we loved Hootenanny for dinner with live music as well as browsing at Leakey’s Bookstore. The Victorian Market was underwhelming aside from a couple of food spots. You can see the best of the town in just a few hours, making it a pleasant overnight stop on the way further north into the Highlands.Guest review byDonnaUnited States - 8.0

Nairn itself, a small town with a lovely beachfront and good local walks. The town centre itself is a bit 'tired' but that can be said for most towns, cities these days. What I would say is you do need your own transport. We relied on public transport so quite limited in accessing further afield.Guest review byBarumHibernianUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Wick is not a pretty place, but it has plenty of history.
Wick is not a pretty place, but it has plenty of history. It looks tired and shows the decline in modern industry and is often bypassed when development opportunities are on offer. This is particularly so with the main truck road being diverted away from the County town. Still its good to see activity in the harbor associated with 'green technology.' The Norseman - great Sunday Carvery The Trinky and The Old Man of Wick - interesting history Getting Around - best walk it - you miss too much otherwise Use the bus to get around the County of Caithness such as, Sincair Bay, John O' Groats, Mey, Dunnet, Castletown, Thurso, Halkirk and Watten. A we excussion to Dunnet Head is good too. So Wick is interesting and good as a base to visit the rest of Caithness.Guest review byTonyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We used this as a stopover travelling down from Orkney to Fife, the hotel was "just ok" but having to go to another hotel for a cooked breakfast made the pricing structure a bit over the top.Guest review byWalterUnited Kingdom - 10.0

I guess it depends on what you are looking for but I really like lossiemouth. It has wonderful sandy beaches and lovely walking trails. Admittedly, the jets from the RAF base can be noisy but, personally, I quite like seeing them and they are not a constant presence. There is no entertainment available, just a peaceful, friendly, place to spend some time unwinding.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Absolutely loved our stay!
Absolutely loved our stay! The accommodation was beautifully appointed and incredibly comfortable. The food was top-notch, and the bar was a real highlight—especially the whiskey selection, which is second to none. The village is charming and perfectly located for exploring the Highlands. Highly recommend spending a few nights at this spectacular hotel!Guest review byAntonyUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Forres is a lovely friendly town.
Forres is a lovely friendly town. It has lots of shops to browse. Grants parks amazing for children and any 4 legged friends. Chimes is a Great coffee shop. There was lots going on within the town with it being Remembrance Sunday.Guest review byMag’sUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Helmsdale is a small village by the coast.
Helmsdale is a small village by the coast. Couple of restaurants and a small supermarket. Couple of pubs. Don't expect a town full of things to do on an evening. This town is great to use as a base when exploring the surrounding area or a stop off on your way up or back to the top of Scotland.Guest review byShe wants to travelUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Ready access to the beach and all other coastal villages...
Ready access to the beach and all other coastal villages each with their own unique charm and character. Friendly people and superb local cuisine. With regard to eating out, there was a limited choice of places to eat in Buckie itself after 7pm. I would say that Struan house is the best hotel in Buckie and that my complimentary review probably mirrors the thoughts of many others who have stayed there.Guest review byAnonymous
