- From £345 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 935 reviewsThe choice from the breakfast-menue was excellent, very varied and complaying with all different needs. Our room was very luxerious, niceley decorated and the bathroom one of the very best. we enjoyed one of the very best afternoon teas at the Matfen Hall and keep a very good memory of a truly old country home in a beautifully natural setting. We felt that no expenses were spared to turn an extraordinary building into a very special hotel. We just loved it and will surely come back to Matfen HallGuest review byErnstSwitzerland
- From £210 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,369 reviewsEverything was wonderful. The room had everything we needed, including an iron, ironing board and standing mirror. The breakfast was fantastic. I really like eggs benedict, but usually I hesitate to order it because I only eat well done eggs and other restaurants never seem to make them well done (even if I ask). However, the restaurant at Doxford Hall managed to make the perfect well done eggs benedict and I was so pleased! The spa facilities were great and never felt overcrowded.Guest review byIzanneSouth Africa

He says the staff are more like family than colleagues. Would highly recommend.Guest review byNeilCzech Republic

A wonderful town with very friendly people. A beautiful castle & gardens well worth a visit. The Tanners Inn sold real ale & lagers made in Alnwick. The Fleece sold food, showed football & had a karaoke. There was an award winning Indian & a delicious fish & chip shop.Guest review byBridgetUnited Kingdom - 10.0

There was plenty to see in Berwick with a variety of shops and places to eat. There appeared to be a range of cultural activities and art to see. The town is walkable but the streets do have hills and uneven surfaces.Guest review byIan MUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Hexham is a beautiful market town, a place where people live and work - not touristy but with everything a tourist might want e.g. cafes, restaurants, arts events, a cinema. Great public transport connections to Newcastle and Carlisle. Exceptional countryside - Hadrian's Wall of course, but don't forget the North Pennines for remote wild walks.Guest review byKateUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Lovely village but can get crowded at weekends and Bank Holidays. Harbour provides access to the Farne Islands. Plenty of shops for groceries and greengroceries. Nice fresh fish shop hidden in the back streets. Interesting pubs.Guest review byGodfreyUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A historic and interesting small town - was a staging post on the Great North Road, hence it's closeness to the current A1. Also on East Coast main railway line so easy access. Free disc parking in town car parks and a good range of shops both national brands and local. Lidl and Morrisons supermarkets quite central. Lovely park with paddling pool and playground with old motte and bailey mound still there. Boating on the river in summer. Small castle but is a private residence. Close to Cragside and Wallington National trust properties and beach at Newbiggin. Northumberland Zoo nearby and well worth a visit with children. Could go on but will finish there with a would recommend comment!Guest review byGrahamUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Bamburgh Castle was excellent would definitely visit again.
Bamburgh Castle was excellent would definitely visit again. The village is beautiful and well looked after. We also visited Seahouses a busy fishing village, expensive for parking, we had an Indian meal and this was first class food. Walked round the harbour it was a busy with lots of working fishing boats and tourist tour boats.Guest review byAngusUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Wooler is the perfect base to explore so much of wonderful Northumberland. The Cheviot hills are on your doorstep, literally walking distance and it is very easy to get to the coast, Lindesfarne and many other places just 30 minutes drive away. A small market town with a high street packed with great shops, pubs, takeaways and cafes; we recommend the Terrace cafe for excellent all day breakfasts and great coffee . The town is particularly good for those who like browsing antique and bric a brac shops, there was even an Auction when we were there.Guest review byHeskiaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

There was a village store in the centre and easy access to local beaches by car. Five well-known castles are also accessible by car all within half an hour - Alnwick, Warkworth, Chillingham, Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh. Boat trips to see the seals and puffins are from Seahouses which is about 8 miles away.Guest review byStephenUnited Kingdom - 8.0
