A small village with more than enough eating venues, accommodation, shops. Every venue us professionally managed, locals friendly and appreciate visitors. These people know how yo present their village to the best of their ability. Sits on the edge of Ullswater and has the ferry terminal for you to take advantage of and sail the length of the lake.Guest review byGlenisUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A short walk from this wonderful village is Lowther Castle and estate. Great walking from this village - you can walk over to Pooley Bridge over the fells - just brilliant. Two great pubs in the village and an outdoor public swimming pool. Really great place to stay.Guest review byBrendaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

You need to approach tbe farm from the South down near the main Penrith Keswick rd. The weather wasn't good during our visit but the decking has a BBQ which would have been fantastic. There's a Lama farm and great Cafe with farm shop just across the main road about a mile away.Guest review byWATTUnited Arab Emirates - 10.0

The countryside around Penrith is beautiful.
The countryside around Penrith is beautiful. This is one of the less touristy parts of the Lakes, but only because it has fewer high peaks, not that it is any less attractive. It is therefore quieter. Lowther is worth visiting, Asham is a lovely little town, very picturesque, Shap Abbey has sat almost hidden in a fold of the landscape since the 13 th century, Hawswater, Ullswater, the High Street ridge, the CTC cycleway, there is a lot to see and do.Guest review byCharlesUnited Kingdom - 8.0
Lovely village with easy access to the lake.
Lovely village with easy access to the lake. However, the village was really busy (to be fair, this was a hot weekend in July - but it was pre school holidays) - and noisy (e.g. loud music playing outside various pubs). During the day the roads around are packed with cars, often dangerously parked. Lovely walk at Aira Force waterfall, but you need to get to the visitor centre early to get a parking space. Personally I would not go again in summer as it's too busy for me (like most of the Lake District) but I would visit again off season.Guest review byTimothy HodgesUnited Kingdom - 8.0

The local store was warm and friendly and for a village store exceptionally well stocked. The Queen's head across the road charged £23 for two drinks then at 9pm called it quits for the evening and hurried us up to leave, cleaning around us, cashing up then setting up for breakfast. Doors slammed and bolted by 9.45pm. Woken early by dog walkers enjoying the village.Guest review byRUnited Kingdom
