There's almost zero reason to visit Stranraer itself; no ferries run from here now. I found one decent shop of interest, the little museam was ok and free. The proximity to the mull of galloway and the rhins was my reason for staying. The accomodation choice was not great, but Royal Hotel was the best optionGuest review byRobertUnited Kingdom - 8.0

I had never been to Portpatrick so was surprised and really liked the area. We agreed to come back and look round the area and walks. Bought some gifts while we were there and all of us(4) commented on how calm a restful it felt.Guest review byFrancesUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Whilst it is a very remote location and you are isolated from other places within walking distance, there is a costal path and tiny beaches to explore. We were staying for one night which was perfect, be mindful that there isn’t any other options for food eateries, the food at the hotel is lovely and prices for a 5 course meal super at £40, the main courses were a little high at approximately £18 and a little heavy if you just want a sandwich or a light bite for your evening meal, but fine dining wearing walking clothes was such a treat! breakfast was included and really hearty. The staff are super attentive and friendly, the hotel is clean and well looked after, very traditional setting and furniture so not a modern setting if that is what you are after. We wanted for nothing, everything was catered for, our room was upgraded to a larger room and was very traditional and comfortable. This is still a working lighthouse, which is incredible to sit and watch the lighthouse in action once the sun begins to set. There is also a upstairs terrace you can watch the sun set from (but no seating) and one of the rooms has a private terrace area (with seating). Really loved our stay and would highly recommend it, especially for the experience of staying at a remote lighthouseGuest review byClaireUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Dunragit is just basically a main road.
Dunragit is just basically a main road. No shops, pubs or restaurants. The nearest place for food is Portpatrick which has a beautiful harbour front but is also very busy. Fortunately each time we went we were able to find a parking spot. I’d always recommended booking a table. The postcode to the property took us up an awful, overgrown, narrow road. There’s a far better one the other side. So our sat nav took us on the A75 (from England) and turned us to the right, cross over a railway line and at the T junction to turn right. Instead, turn left here and then first right. A far better road to access the farm. At the farm there’s a wooden fence surrounding an area of green grass, turn to the left (just after that area) and on your right you’ll see an opening through the wall which you drive through and the COO Shed is the property directly opposite with the half glazed doorway into it to the left which is next to the opening of your private hot tub.Guest review byLynnUnited Kingdom - 6.0

We like to go out for a drink and a meal and the choice in Drummore is in our opinion poor. But if you are not into eating out or going for a drink and want to go somewhere that is away from the maddening crowds then Drummore could be the place for you. Luce bay is quite special and Dummore is not far from the various gardens and places to visit on the Mull.Guest review byJamesUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Port Logan is a very peaceful and lovely place to stay or come for a walk on the beach. Having base in Port Logan in a mid Feb we discovered that there aren’t many places opened yet but still we had a walk outside of impressive Castle Kennedy gardens, the Glanwhen gardens were open with honesty box or pay online and they were peaceful with plenty to see on plentiful winding paths. On weekend the Logan Botanical gardens were opened too and what a great place to see some rare in UK trees and bushes. The Logan Fish pond was fascinating to learn about both how it was created and about all the fish species living there now. Then there are numerous coastal walks with wonderful views nearby and beautiful beaches for a stroll or picnic. In the North Rhins there is a Wig bay and apart from interesting historical aspect we were gobsmacked with amount of interesting shells to find and with the variety of sea birds.Guest review byAnnaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
It is a small village.
It is a small village. It is an excellent location to visit the Mull of Galloway lighthouse which has a cheap tour . It is the most southerly point in Scotland. There are also nice beaches and an RSPB site at the lighthouse The Logan gardens are also close to this area. We saw a snow goose. This is only the second Snow goose I have seen in Scotland. The locals said it appears on a regular basisGuest review byrobertoUnited Kingdom - 8.0

Stranraer is a little rundown after its fortunes were affected by the relocation of the ferry along the road to Cairnryan. Much of the harbour is run down with tatty parking bays for ferry vehicles. However there are hidden gems, the swan lido and park by the water, an ACTUAL tourist information office, helpful public library. Decent if rather retro restaurants - Chinese, pizza oven. Museum and castle to visit although check opening hours.Guest review byKathyUnited Kingdom - 6.0

Portpatrick is a quaint seaside village with great access to the outdoors. A good stay, in my opinion, is all down to the weather. Unfortunately the prices in the sea front bars are 'city prices' with a pint of lager coming in at £6.50. Usual prices in the region vary from around £4.00 - £4.50. Very much ripping off the tourists.Guest review byStephenUnited Kingdom
