There's plenty to do, including plenty of shopping.
There's plenty to do, including plenty of shopping. But there's two major annoyances. 1. The food is mediocre (Popo Lamama was one of the few exceptions) - it is uninspiring, and sometimes unsafe (served luke-warm, not hot). 2. Public transport is annoying: buses on certain routes are infrequent, short trips often require 3 buses, and BRT bus stops are located far apart. I'm not sure if I managed to activate JakLingko on my (Bogor-issued) e-Money cards. Other observations: some BRT buses get caught in traffic because they can't enter the BRT lane until much later (a particularly bad example is Rt 10H taking the corkscrew from Jl. Gatot Subroto to Jl. Jenderal Suderman towards SCBD). Poorly designed walking paths to public transport or shopping centres. Trains running to funny patterns (needing two trains to get to Duri even though it's on the same line???). The JakLingko app requires you to mess around and set up an account first - so I used Google Maps (public transport directions) instead. We tried to visit the National Monument, but we gave up due to the very long walk from the public transport to the actual monument.Guest review byNicholasAustralia - 10.0

We were unable to arrange a ride to the hotel through the hotel. They wanted to know where we were at the airport and there were no identifying door numbers, or curb markers to tell them. Then they wanted us to take a picture of where we were and send it to them.... There was no picture we could take that would identify exactly where we were. A huge airport, we'd never been there before, had been traveling for 24 hours and we were exhausted and overwhelmed. We finally just took a cab. The room was quiet - after the people in the hallway stopped talking loudly at 2:30 AM. The room was comfortable enough for our 18 hours there. Beds comfortable, room temperature was great.Guest review bylindaUnited States - 8.0

The WHOOSH Speed Train was awesome fast, comfortable and gave us peace of mind traveling to Bandung. Travel from Halim (Jakarta) to Padalarang (Bandung vicinity) takes about 30 minutes at speeds up to 350 km/h. We recommend engaging a driver through Kiki Travel they were efficient and offered affordable rates, making the journey smooth and hassle-free to explore outside Bandung such as Lembang about 1hour from Bandung. Hygiene at this places is a major concerned cause they have to at least install a fly trap at the cafe and restaurant. Stunning view and nice location but lots of flies.Guest review byTengku Sherina SyamanthaMalaysia - 8.0
My last visit to Surabaya was about 10 years ago.
My last visit to Surabaya was about 10 years ago. The city had transformed to be nicer and cleaner. Shopping malls were excellent now, cleaner. Keep it up. Surprisingly bluebird taxis were still available, but driver's honesty was questionable at times (meter rates).Guest review byMohd RaziMalaysia - 8.0

Travelled for work, have had many trips for 3-6 weeks in Malang this year. It is a lively city, very busy and densely packed. There are some good bars and restaurants for westerners to visit, it's worth asking around as places close and new ones open up so online guides aren't always accurate. Climate is always warm, either warm and dry, or warm and rainy! People are very friendly, and the cost of living is very cheap compared to western prices. Local food is good, can be quite spicy as they do like chillies.Guest review byMatthewUnited Kingdom - 6.0

ijen is pretty much overrated, it's a nice 6-hour-ish hike with above medium difficulty, the flame is underwhelming which is slightly bigger than a camp fire and the crater? go to Bromo instead. With the current volcano incident related to the Brazilian tourist, I am more convinced that people should be aware of tour guide's quality and training in East Java. Upon reading some brief information about traveling to Ijen, I found to mandatory in getting a guide, I went there alone and caught weird looks from other guides, some avoided my interactions when they found out I was alone, some others was good and paying attention.Guest review byVuVietnam - 8.0

Everything is perfect but only one thing that I have really uncomfortable. That is internet connection !!!!! I can not fully watch YouTube or Netflix bt my laptop. Wifi signal continously has drorpped so it is very difficult to watch any streaming. Even I have to access to my company web for working. Something is happened. I can not work because very low level of internet connection and internet speed. I didn't have any internet issue when I was in Jakarta and Borgor during similar times (I was in jakarta and borgor one week ago) If you have to do something with internet, I can not recommend this hotel. It is very very terriblesGuest review byvitrdamdaSouth Korea - 8.0

Bogor is a good area for a short break from the crowded Jakarta. lot's of food to try and fresh air. However, you need to consider the traffic, especially during weekends and long weekend. Could be challenging too.Guest review byKurniawanIndonesia - 8.0

Authentic introduction to a broad Javanese experience from traditional markets to modern shopping malls. Ancient palaces , streets packed with carts and traders , a look into the past. Very safe with smiles and welcomes everywhere . Truly lovely people , helpful and kind, anyone we came into contact with, staff, shop keepers, drivers - whatever - were overwhelmingly polite and caring with manners and curtesy . Plenty to see in the area. A day trip to Prambanan a pleasant 90 minutes through interesting landscape.Guest review byTerry
