We had a wonderful stay at the Ardagh Hotel. The service was fantastic throughout — warm, attentive, and welcoming. The restaurant was a highlight: breakfast was included and served à la carte with a lovely selection, and we also had a very nice dinner there. The food was excellent, and the view over the lake made the experience even more special. Our room was spacious, with beautiful views and a very comfortable bed. A truly relaxing and memorable stay — we would happily return!

Galway always has a lovely vibe, with lots to see and do and plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy. We were only staying one day but got to walk the town and visit St. Nicholas's Church, the oldest structure in the city at 800 years old. The exhibits in it were great in telling the history of the city albeit in a working church. It's also good to walk along the banks of the River Corrib see the Spanish Arch, Shop St. etc.

Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants. The National Museum of Ireland is just a few minutes drive away. Castlebar is ideally located for exploring County Mayo. The local library is excellent too with very friendly helpful staff who were only too willing to help with a little family history enquiry. We only stayed for one night and had our main meal in Lana, an Asian restaurant. The food was lovely and plentiful. So much so, we didn't bother with breakfast the following day.

Ballina has a lot to offer. Very friendly people with lots to do in the town and a great gateway to other delights in county Mayo. Some really great pubs and restaurants and a great Arts Centre. Cong is a beautiful historic village with its own dramatic ruined Abbey and the extraordinarily beautiful woods adjacent to Ashford Castle. There are many lovely walking trails amidst the huge trees - that include some redwoods. Sadly, many trees were downed during the devastating Storm Eowyn in January 2025, so a number of trails, including access to Lough Corrib beach, have been blocked. Also, be aware that this is a popular tourist area and buses can disgorge large groups at any time during the day. All the more reason to stay overnight!
