The hotel was really nice with modern and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was also superb. Staff was friendly and welcoming. We had a room with lake view that was really nice. We did a road trip to East end of the Iceland and this was perfect place to stay on the east side.

A gem in the middle of nowhere, over the top, worth every single euro spent. Definitely the most genuine accommodation you can find in Iceland, surrounded by sheep, dogs, and their pet reindeer. The restaurant is as sublime as the place itself.

We stayed during down season, so we didn't expect it to be so quiet in the town. It was beautiful though and we enjoyed it very much. The host was very responsive and helpful. The place was lovely and right next to the pond.

The hotel was clean and tidy and the room was spacious. It's located conveniently at the town centre. The staff were polite and helpful. The Hotel Studligil is a gem. You might miss it if you’re driving by, as they’re still waiting for their new sign. It changed hands recently, and the manager explained that the focus has been to make the inside comfortable before focusing on the outside. This former school’s rooms are spotless with new baths and plenty of room for luggage. There is no mini-fridge or kettle, but there is a large dining room serving dinner and breakfast. The best part is the food, and everything we had was hand crafted by the manager, her son, and her daughter. Actually, the best part was the manager herself. So sweet and helpful! And she actually went to school here when she was a kid. We had planned to save our pennies and eat out of the cooler, but my partner decided to get a bite from the restaurant just before they closed at 9pm. It’s a limited menu because everything is freshly homemade. The curry soup, homemade burger creation, and savory bread were so wonderful that we opted to order breakfast while having dinner. In my somewhat limited experience with artfully created food, the food and sauces run out before the stomach is full. Not so here. There was extra of everything from the homemade blueberry sauce for the burger (I know, but trust me it’s amazing) to the herb butter for the homemade bread. This non-pretentious, no-frills hotel has common areas to socialize and meet fellow travelers, and the staff is thoughtful and kind. Even if you don’t stay here, I recommend you stop in for a meal. (We enjoyed meeting the manager so much we wanted to remember her with a photo; she's in the middle; the food photos are before and after dinner.)

Our room was very nice. Comfy bed so we had a great sleep. We saw the northern lights over the hotel from the car park. Check in was very quick and easy. The breakfast was very good, plenty of options. It's continental but a good one. The shower has great pressure i liked the tiles on the walls. I would definitely recommend this hotel. It has everything you want for your ring road journey. Value, comfy beds, views, location, great breakfast and friendly staff.

A nice town with plenty to do in the surrounding area.

A nice town with plenty to do in the surrounding area. During our stay, we got pizza from Askur Pizzeria, which was phenomenal, especially after a long day of travel. The main reason we chose to stay here was because we wanted to see the puffins at Borgarfjarðarhöfn, and hike the waterfall circle. Egilsstaðir was a perfect central location for us to see everything we wanted to in the area, and then some. The Netto nearby allowed us to get whatever we needed for our stay. We skipped the Vok baths, as one in our party was pregnant, and she could not enjoy the hot waters. We would definitely stay here again.

An Unbelievable Gem at an Unbeatable Price!

An Unbelievable Gem at an Unbeatable Price! I was initially drawn in by the incredibly affordable rates, which led me to expect a rather basic lodging and dining experience. To my absolute delight, I couldn't have been more mistaken. The room I stayed in was nothing short of fantastic, and the restaurant left me in awe. The staff, without exception, was both incredibly helpful and genuinely friendly. However, the real gem here is the owner, who boasts an impressive depth of knowledge about the local wildlife. Every one of my numerous questions was met with boundless enthusiasm and a wealth of expertise. It's safe to say that I'm eagerly anticipating a return trip, set for the upcoming summer or fall season, in pursuit of a memorable fishing adventure. This place exceeded my expectations on every level, and I can't wait to experience it all over again.

The Hallormsstaður area is on a beautiful lake with the largest forest in Iceland nearby. Several significant waterfalls, including the 420 ft. Hengifoss, are minutes away by car. Firstly - the road to the area has recently been sealed and is EXCELLENT. Many older reviews mention the horrid mountain gravel track that is no more (and it would have been bad especially in inclement weather). There are a huge number of hikes from a few hours long to a few days that can be done in the area and if you really want to explore and get the most out if it stay a few days at least, especially if the weather turns. I did see a little camp ground and there are several accomodation options. For the photographers and bird watchers out there there is plenty to keep you occupied. And no review is complete without mentioning the puffins :-) They are a few (4 or 5?) km from town proper There is parking up top with a cafe (I did not go in but hubby did as he was cold and sick of puffins - he said it was average to say the least but did have wifi) a short set of stairs down to the little harbour then a short set up on the puffin cliff. If someone is a bit immobile then you can drive (but not park) then down to the second set of stairs. The stairs are a bit narrow and have two wooden walkways up top. I have been to many different bird areas and puffin cliffs and this is simply the most accessible and easy to view, especially for small children/elderly as there is very little effort required in getting to the location and there are burrow within 50cm of the board walk in some cases, on all sides. There is a sheltered bird hide at the end of one walkway. Note there are also Elders breeding here and a vast array of sea birds flying past at al times with feed for their young. Everyone seemed very respectful of others with moving aside to let people pass on the narrow stairs (as there are great vantage points from there)
