FAQs about hotels in Calabria
Italy’s Best-Kept Secret
Boasting fantastic beach resorts on its 2 coastlines, Calabria forms the toe of the Italian boot. A favourite of Italian holidaymakers, it is in many respects the region that Italy doesn’t want you to know about.
With some of Booking.com’s best Calabria hotels, Tropea has a fabulous beach at the foot of sheer cliffs topped by buildings. Neighbouring Capo Vaticano has beautiful beaches and a craggy coastline, and Scilla is another amazing Tyrhennian coast resort, immortalised in Greek mythology.
Gioia Tauro has an important port, as does Reggio Calabria, the region’s largest city and birthplace of Gianni Versace. It has an excellent archaeological museum housing the Riace bronzes – Greek statues from the 5th century BC. Just north at Villa San Giovanni, trains drive straight onto ferries to Messina in Sicily.
Inland is Aspromonte National Park, one of Calabria’s top tourist sights, while the Pollino National Park is in the north. Its nearest city is Cosenza with a tranquil old town and 13th-century castle. South is Lamezia Terme, site of the region’s main airport, and nearby Catanzaro is the Calabrian capital.
Crotone on the Ionian coast has a long, sandy beach, as does Soverato. Roccella Ionica’s beach is overlooked by a 16th-century castle, and inland Gerace is one of Italy’s best preserved medieval villages.

- From £192.92 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 66 reviewsWe came without any prior research of the property, just in last minute decision... and first day was cultural shock :), but at the end of the day we like it so much, because of the quietness of the property, stunning sunsets, beachfront, the storey of the plot, with the highest part being about 60 meters above sea level where was our apartment situated. Also there are a shuttle who moves you up or down if you are not relay on your legs :) - The apartment was well conditioned and dries the air, cause the humidity outside was extremely high :) - The beds was comfy - The parking lot was near to the flat - There was two swimming pools, one on our level with SPA and one with salt water on the sea level. - The bar and the restaurant prepares typical Italian cuisines - At the end, but not last, the staff was so friendly and politeGuest review byKavrakirovBulgaria
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 55 reviewsWe had a wonderful stay at Gabbiano, it surpassed our expectations. A beautiful location with stunning beach and amazing pool. It was spacious and felt v private and relaxing despite being a resort. The gardens were immaculate, it felt like being in the Caribbean. Great value for money, especially compared to Sorrento where we’d been before travelling south. A special mention to you waiter Mimmo who looked after us every evening, sharing personal recommendations which didn’t disappoint. A wonderful relaxing 3 days for my husband and three daughters. Thank you.Guest review byLizziUnited Kingdom

Clean, large room with a large terrace. The restaurant is on the second floor and has a wonderful view of the pool and the sea. In the evening there is wonderful entertainment with songs and dances for children and adults. There is free parking next to the hotel.Guest review byPirelyBulgaria

Very nice town plenty to do and see with restaurants and bars within walking distance It was buzzing g at night with a good atmosphere The national museum and cathedral well worth visiting. great sea for snorkeling but sometimes jellyfish on Grotticelle beach (very painful for kids) - in Tropea no jellyfish and calm sea all the times. in summer has the area problems with water supply - before check-in ask the owner of the property of the state of water in the tanks (we had bad luck in July, our apartment ran out of water twice a week - very stressful) the beaches of Capo Vaticano are available by car (parking is for 1,50 Eur/hour) or on foot 20min walk downhill (but up the hill in hot weather is guite a challenge) snorkeling in this sea is like in an aquarium :-)Guest review byBarboraCzech Republic - 10.0
Great apartment close to city Centre and beach.
Great apartment close to city Centre and beach. We only stayed one night as we were in transit to Sicily and wanted to stay and check out Pizzo. We should have stayed longer and enjoyed the beautiful clear water. I recommend you consider this apartment it is very nice and well appointed.Guest review byFSGASPOAustralia - 10.0

Having only just sold my apartment in Scalea after 20 wonderful years, I cannot praise Scalea enough. Unfortunately Old Father Time is catching up with me and caused the sale. Scalea is a great town in Calabria with the sea, mountains , shopping centre , several supermarkets, and loads of good restaurants in Scalea itself and the surrounding area. I have found the locals friendly and helpful.Guest review byWilliamUnited Kingdom - 10.0

A delightful little town with an old castle and picturesque views. Not many shops around in the center, however. Only found one farmacia and one supermarket other than a small alimentari. Great Lidos on the beach where one can eat and drink while enjoying the beach with sun beds and umbrellas for 10 euros for two.Guest review byalec - 6.0

Lamezia Terme is not the most exciting place to stay, but prices there are way more affordable than along the coast. It's not that easy to commute to the seaside towns, but doable, you just need quite a lot of timeGuest review byKarolinaPoland - 10.0

This was my second one-day visit to Cosenza, and I still haven't had time to fully explore. However, both the historic part and the modern centre are extensive, so are worth more time. I haven't yet explored beyond the old town for restaurants, but there is a good trattoria with friendly service next to the cathedral. (Calabria Bella)Guest review byDeryk MayerItaly - 6.0

The owner Martina and all the staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. The hotel was spotlessly clean, rooms were cleaned every day. Martina arranged our pick up from the airport and also the hire of a scooter, nothing was too much trouble. The lovely beach of Riaci is a 5 minute drive away, roads very steep if you have to walk.Tropea ia a 15 minute drive. I would definitely recommend this hotel.Guest review byWilliamUnited Kingdom
