FAQs about hotels in Umbria
Hilltop Towns Ringing with Music
One of Italy’s smallest regions, fabulous Umbria has stunning hilltop towns, rolling vineyards and magnificent architecture to rival its more famous neighbour Tuscany.
The capital Perugia is a university town whose cobbled centre houses medieval art, steep streets and shops selling locally made chocolate. It also hosts a jazz festival, while the annual Festival of the Two Worlds is in Spoleto, a town with a hilltop castle and well-preserved Roman theatre.
Remains of a Roman theatre are also in walled Gubbio, one of Italy’s best-preserved medieval towns. North-east, Città di Castello has excellent galleries and a church visible for miles around. The same is true of the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi, dedicated to the saint who lived in poverty. Ironically, this hillside town has one of the few 5-star Umbria hotels.
Foligno has a peaceful river and further south Terni is near the multi-level Marmore waterfalls. Orvieto on a sheer escarpment to the north-west houses the jewel in the Umbrian crown – a fantastic cathedral with a gold-mosaic façade.
To the north, jutting into Lake Trasimeno on a piece of land that was once an island, is Castiglione del Lago. In the east, tranquil Norcia in the foothills of the Monti Sibillini National Park houses some of the many Umbria hotels in the countryside on Booking.com.

- From £93.57 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.1Superb - What previous guests thought, 512 reviewsThe location is exceptional with great view This is a proper Agriturismo, something extremely difficult to find in Italy. They do really serve you the food they produce and they are proud of it and rightly so The restaurant offer you a real taste of Italian local (Umbria) food no if no but. All food it is superb but, in case you'll find it on the menu just ask for "Coratella" (starter) alongside one of their grilled dish (main) Their olive oil is what a farmer would call olive oil, forget the shelf filled with bottles having some green liquid inside. Once you have tried their olive oil you'll understand what you had so far was far from being olive oil The staff (owner included, Alessandro) are there to make you enjoy your stay and ready to help you out. Having worked as a waiter I can ensure their service it is well above excellent. The pool is clean, and they also have a small bar there where you can get a drink without running to the restaurant and offer the possibility of enjoy a superb beer they produce. Also, in case you like ice cream yogurt then you are in the right place to get the best I have ever had All the family enjoyed the stay, dog included! When we left we could not go if not by taking with us some of their olive oil, their soap and a good selection of their jamGuest review byFabioItaly
- From £448.29 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 431 reviewsThe rooms were fairly small but clean, cozy, and extremely comfortable. The spa facilities were excellent, especially the heated indoor-outdoor pool, though the massages were quite average compared to other spa resorts we've visited. The food and wine selection at the resort were outstanding, and the views across the property were truly impressive. I would definitely return if I ever visit that area of Italy again. Also remember to call the resort before booking as some rooms are far from the property and some are inside the property.Guest review byDilsher SinghIndia
- From £125.54 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.8Good - What previous guests thought, 886 reviewsLocation is perfect. Facilities clean and beautiful. The staff were lovely. When we arrived we discovered we had no electricity (no aircon) in our room. They kindly offered us a new room which ended up as an upgrade. This was so greatly appreciated as we had just finished our first day driving on the opposite side and our hire car overheating, we were exhausted. We stayed 6 nights, breakfast was delicious, Pool was clean with amazing views and room was comfortable.Guest review byJodiAustralia
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,074 reviewsDomus Pacis Assisi is very well located near the train station and it is very convenient for travelling by trains. It is upgraded and very, very clean. For those who cannot eat suggary breakfast, there is a possibility with toasts and cheese which is more than expected in majority of places in Italy. Air condition is perfect, not too cold, not too warm and without a windy air. Perfect for 38 degree in the summer 2024!!! I recommend it for All.Guest review byJolantaPoland

Orvieto is a beautiful, historic city on a high outcrop. There are some great restaurants, and interesting sites to see. We recommend Al Pozzo Etrusco Di Fabrizio Grilli for excellent local dishes. It's worth booking as it isn't very big. There's a walk around the bottom of the cliff - steep and gravelly in parts, but lovely views.Guest review bySusanUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Beautiful historic town with many restaurants, winding streets, squares In which to sit and people watch. Two Worlds Festival brought lovers of drama, music, opera, ballet and art to the town but didn’t feel too full. However, pre-book accommodation and restaurants near to the venues. Access to centre of Spoleto can be via underground light and airy passageways and travelators if you want to avoid the climb in the heat of the day! Surrounded by beautiful wooded countryside in which to discover hidden gems, waterfalls, lakes and hiking trails.Guest review byLindaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Terni is a wonderful city.
Terni is a wonderful city. In my opinion it's a hidden gem of Italy. It's an easy 1-hour train ride from Rome, and on the way to all the northern Italian cities. Terni Centro has almost no cars, so incredibly walking friendly, full of cafes, gelaterias, and pizza. All, with picture book old Italian architecture. Also, Terni really comes alive after 4pm!Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

We stayed one night. Julia, the hostess, was outstandingly helpful and she spoke very good English. The dinner and breakfast were particularly good. We ate dinner outdoors but in good shade from the evening sun. There is a large swimming pool which has a superb view. I highly recommend Romitorio agriturismo.Guest review byPaulUnited Kingdom - 6.0

If you're religious and want to see Cascia and St Rita's birthplace nearby then come or if interested in art history and St Rita's basilica and monastery next door. If driving it's a nice way to pass a morning or afternoon. Not much else to keep you there but scenery roundabout is stunning! We took a taxi organized by hotel and spent an hour or two around her birthplace village -magical views and you can climb up hill to mountain top church!Guest review byMaryUnited Kingdom
