- From £352.73 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 67 reviewsHad the most incredible stay at Satoyama Jujo. My wife and I were visiting Japan and in search of a nature retreat from Tokyo for a few nights, and this resort exceeded our expectations in so many ways. The room was quiet and serene, the baths had stunning views of the surrounding mountains, and the food was impeccable. The service was so thoughtful as well; on our last day we were snowed in and couldn't get back to Tokyo, but the hotel made sure we could extend our reservation one night and offered a complimentary taxi to the train station the next day. Hope to be back again one day!Guest review byBuyanovskyJapan
- From £161.06 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 518 reviewsThe hotel is very well located and has a very efficient shuttle service from the Kawazu station: we were able to use it to drop our luggages in our room and go back to explore the Kawazu cherry blossom festival! The room is beautiful sea view. Public bath are very pleasant. All the hotel is adapted to children (welcome kits, high chairs, playing area, even the public baths are well equiped for them!). The staff is really nice and helpful. Thank you for this nice stay :)Guest review byMorganeFrance
- From £115.95 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 105 reviewsIt’s clean, very well equipped with heater, cooking utensils. The owners are so nice and friendly. Language may be a barrier but they tried really hard to accommodate all our needs. The place is slightly secluded which is perfect for quiet vacation but you can still go to town centre by just taking 1 train to Karuizawa station and the owners are nice enough to drop and pick you!Guest review byShereenMalaysia
- From £166.36 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.5Very good - What previous guests thought, 302 reviewsAbsolutely loved everything about our stay here. This was our first stay in a traditional Japanese style hotel and it was just perfect. The staff were very helpful and freindly, the room was clean and comfortable and the food was exceptional. The hotel has it own private access to the beach too, which was idealic.Guest review byMadiUnited Kingdom
- From £411.36 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 37 reviewsExcellent stay, and the view of the bay from the room was amazing. Both meals were delicious, and we had them in a private room. Also, there were a few private baths. The service staff were amiable and helpful. It is worth a trip to this remote area of the Noto Peninsula.Guest review byManamiJapan

Nagoya is a treasure for eating and shopping.
Nagoya is a treasure for eating and shopping. LOTS of great restaurants. There's the science museum, the Toyota museum, and Nagoya Castle. No "authentic" neighborhoods to explore, though there is an ethnic shopping street near Kamimaezu Station. There are lots of traditional Japanese coffee shops "kissaten" to relax in if that's your thing. If you venture away from downtown there are places like Shirotori Gardens or Arimatsu on the historical Tokaido Road which was a center of indigo dyeing. No restaurants though in the 800 m length of the neighborhood.Guest review byBalibari2015United States - 10.0

Kanazawa is incredibly beautiful and felt like an underrated gem when we went there, as there were virtually no other tourists and the city was very calm and quiet. Lots of things to do, see and explore, and it kind of gives off similar vibes to Kyoto (with the historical districts and the river flowing through the city) but without the crowds. We had an amazing time there and would definitely return. We mostly walked everywhere because every street was gorgeous to look at. I recommend to visit the Kanazawa Castle and the garden next to it, the historical chaya districts (there are multiple) and the Oyama Shrine grounds. The city also offers amazing museums, which are worth a visit as well!Guest review byMariaGermany - 10.0
Ropeway and boat trip was good.
Ropeway and boat trip was good. We hired bikes from Jays as they shut later than the others and went to the Chureito Pagoda, Fujisan World Heritage Center, and then cycled round the lake stopping at Kawaguchiko Music Forest Museum, Oishi Park and Yamanashi Gem Museum.Guest review byBerthaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Takayama is a jewell in the mountains.
Takayama is a jewell in the mountains. Small, walkable, ( around the city or in the mountains ), has great food, friendly people… There are plenty of day trips from Takayama. We could not go to the valley to try onsen ( heavy rains ) and went to the Green hotel instead - the onsen there was, surprisingly, beautiful and relaxing. The train journey from Takayama to Kyoto is spectacular ( sit on the left side ) - amazing views of the mountains and the river.Guest review byMariaSpain - 8.0

We really liked Matsumoto and it was a much more fun and interesting city than we expected. We had an overnight stay, largely to visit the famous castle, after visiting Kiso valley. Would happily have stayed longer.Guest review byrebeccaCanada - 8.0

I've been extremely lucky, I was in Niigata after a snowstorm and I found an amazing scenery of beaches under a white carpet. The fisherman market is an experience you should not miss, delicious food and crazy cheap bill. Try to drive the coastline!Guest review byMastershifuChina - 10.0

Absolutely loved Nagano, so friendly and clean and easy to get around. We lucked out and arrived when the the dance festival was on which was really fun. There are lovely restaurants, good shopping and it’s easy to get around. The old part of the town and the temple are beautiful. We took the bus to see the snow monkeys as well which was worth every penny, even though it was 30 degrees they were still in the onsen, it was magical!Guest review byPippaUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Shizuoka is a hidden gem.
Shizuoka is a hidden gem. You can stay here and get to many sightseeing destinations by rail (day trips) and come back to the relaxation of more laidback location. Locals are very pleasant and friendly, not so jaded by the over tourism of Kyoto and Osaka. We speak very limited Japanese, but were welcomed and managed in small local restaurants and Izakayas.Guest review byMarkAustralia - 8.0
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us.
Quiet seaside town with no tourists apart from us. Easy to get to from Osaka. Stayed in a traditional ryokan (tattoo friendly). Spent the day walking along the harbour to the ropeway up to Atami castle which had several different art displays and museums including an adults only one and a great view of the coast. Away from the beach things were pretty steep so a car might have been a sensible optionGuest review byBrigidAustralia - 10.0

People there are very helpful and courteous. It is very clean, and uncongested. Quiet and peaceful, unlike the other cities. I highkt recommend pairing Toyama and Tetayama, i.e. 3 and 2 nights respectively . Simply amazing.Guest review byWangSingapore
