- From US$252.68 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 341 reviewsA special Hotel in a very special place, one of our best stays ever. Prior to our arrival I had arranged with the hotel to be picked up from the station. As promised a taxi arrived and drove ourselves and a couple of other guests the 15 minutes or so to the hotel. Staff were waiting outside to greet us and show us to reception where checkin was effortless as desk clerk spoke good English. Unusually we weren’t expected to pay or leave a credit card on file, payment is when you leave. We had booked a suite with sea views primarily because we needed western beds and chairs as we feel that sadly, the days of sleeping on the floor are behind us. In fact the rooms are described as The Royal Suite and it lives up to its name. There are three large rooms elegantly furnished. The double aspect room with large windows allowed us to appreciate the spectacular views of the bay, An absolute delight was the wet room with its shower and bathing pool, big enough for two, which afforded a view of the bay. Needless to say everything was spotlessly clean and comfortable, the wifi worked well, but the star of the room was certainly the view and the strange sense of peace and spirituality, which we both felt. Dinner too was a highlight partly cooked on jot plates at the table it was a feast of food from the sea. We ordered a bottle of white wine to go with the meal. It was Japanese and was, well….. interesting and not unpleasant. The bed was large and comfortable and the view at night with a full moon sparkling on the sea was amazing. The weather was cold with snow on the ground so we did not venture down to the beach. Breakfast was again most enjoyable and all too soon it was time to check out and take the shuttle bus to the station. Our stay was not cheap, but to put it in context much less than an average room in a Tokyo hotel, but considering the space, the excellent food, the service and above all the sense of peace was well worth it. A very special place to stay.Guest review byPaulUnited Kingdom
- From US$95.96 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.4Very good - What previous guests thought, 638 reviewsI came out of the train station and headed for the Tourist Information Office but I missed the TIO and turned into the next door and was completely surprised because it was the entrance to my hotel. It cannot get more convenient than that. I do not speak Japanese and I am deeply grateful to a member of the hotel staff who took time to use the hotel telephone to get me a reservation to the wind phone and even took the time to print out information in English about it. Traveling alone I found it reassuring to feel so well taken care of.Guest review byEileenUnited States
- From US$55.87 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.2Good - What previous guests thought, 514 reviewsConvenient location not far from the rock-splitting sakura, Morioka castle park, and within walking distance to most places we wanted to visit in Morioka. Parking available for additional 1100 yen/24hr, we had to leave our car keys at the reception as the parking space in front of the hotel is limited and the cars must be rearranged according to departure plan. Very accurately executed, kudos. We could also see Iwatesan from the window.Guest review byThaniya LorlertratnaThailand
- From US$49.26 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.8Good - What previous guests thought, 553 reviewsVery easy to access once we'd figured out the route from the train station. Perfect little base for what we needed on our travels around Morioka and the surrounding area. Rooms were very clean and well kept, staff were more than happy to help and very patient with our slight language barrier, and the request for close rooms was fulfilled on check-in so we were very appreciative and enjoyed our little stayover!Guest review byThomasUnited Kingdom

Room was great and very comfortable, Baths are also great and the surroundings are beautiful and very quiet. They have a transport service and picked me up from the train station, it is just a 10mins drive. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and very high quality. Team was really nice, very patient and helpful. Highly recommended!Guest review byRODRIGOSpain

Morioka is apparently famous for different types of locally produced noodles. I ate at two different restaurants, both were tasty with the usual exemplary Japanese customer service. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from if that is your thing. Morioka is a pleasant spot with mountain views from the central city. I visited in winter there are a few nearby skifields. I imagine it would be gorgeous in spring and autumn.Guest review byIanNew Zealand - 10.0

We were there at a perfect time for the cherry blossoms… so beautiful!!! The park was easy to get to. We were there around 9:30am and there were a lot of parking spaces. But by the time we left around 2pm, there were long queues everywhere. So do go early if you are driving. The park was quite big, the crowd tended to spread out so it wasn’t too bad. We were thinking of taking a boat ride, but only to find that the boats were already out of service for a few years. There were a no of food stalls there so we had lunch there. The quality of the food varied so do go around to compare before ordering anything.Guest review byNoraHong Kong - 10.0
It has been very hot.
It has been very hot. So the reception /breakfast area was open and cool. The hotel is close to Ichinoseki Stn which services both Shinkansen and local lines. There's also quite a large supermarket nearby, and a good selection of restaurants😊Guest review byAndrewAustralia - 10.0

It's like 3-min walk from the station, and there's a 7-11 3 m min away. Jodogahama Beach is a short ride away, and it's beautiful. I stayed through the typhoon that landed in Miyako. The owner was extremely helpful, dishing out advice and helping me cancel my next accommodation (really appreciate this since i can't speak Japanese and it's a ryokan in a small town). I met a bunch of really cool people, we managed to hang out during and after the typhoon left us, checking out local night spots ... what was a disruption to my travels turned out to be the best experience this trip. Extremely grateful, and will surely be back!Guest review bytransezSingapore - 10.0
A great town.
A great town. Has become synonymous with the short lived poet and writer Miyazawa Kenji. Every corner bears signs or artistic creations inspired by his characters in his stories. The English Coast is pleasant for a walk. The town offers many museums, including those dedicated to Kenji and Nitobe Inazo (the author of The Soul of Japan). Very rich in hot springs.Guest review byYakupJapan - 10.0
Cottage was clean with full amenities.
Cottage was clean with full amenities. Barbecue dinner was super yummy; good quality, A5/4 beef, chicken skewers were tender n juicy. Fresh salad and delicious mushroom ajillo. Portion was too much for 2 of us! Overwhelming service was a bonus! Overall we satisfied with our stay and definitely will stay at the Forest Cottage if we come back to Ohsu next time. 👍👍👍🇯🇵Guest review byLoHong Kong - 8.0
Great little town.
Great little town. I didn't see any other foreign tourists while I was there and everyone was very friendly, especially on the hiking trails. Some good outdoor activities available but need a car to get around as they are rather far from the city center.Guest review bySaraUnited States - 10.0
Morioka has some really charming sights and locations.
Morioka has some really charming sights and locations. Make time for the History Museum, the 2nd floor is 300 Yen entry fee but well worth the price. The walk through the gardens around the castle museums is also lovely. There are some good shops in the Fezan mall that is in the station building.Guest review byJoanna CUnited Kingdom - 10.0
The roads to this mountain is breath taking.
The roads to this mountain is breath taking. I would love to take my bicycle and ride there. The walk from the carpark at the tope of the mountain is very easy. It takes about 20-30 minutes to the peak. There are few walking trails at the top of the mountain. The car park cost 500yen.Guest review byMicahJapan - 10.0
We stopped in Morioka on the way to Niseko.
We stopped in Morioka on the way to Niseko. It is a small Japanese city with stunning views of Mt Iwate. Our main purpose was to visit friends, so we didn't do much touring, but Morioka is a lovely smaller city, very walkable, with an active city centre of restaurants and many interesting temples. It almost feels like a mini Kyoto while driving around. We enjoyed Wanko Soba, which is famous in Morioka.Guest review byBarbaraUnited Kingdom
