- From £266.17 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.0Superb - What previous guests thought, 531 reviewsMikasa was a wonderful place to stay for a visit in Nara. Perfect place to unplug and treat yourself, thanks to the atmosphere of the hotel and the a tentative staff, that went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. The rooms and onsen are complete with all amenities needed. The onsens in particular are beautiful and relaxing, and are available late in the evening, so can be used after dinner as well. The traditional dinner and breakfast in a personal dining room are an experience in itself. Especially recommend the room with the personal hot bathtub. The room is very spacious and the futons the staff lay for the evening are surprisingly comfortable after a trip to the onsen. If we ever get the chance to visit Japan and Nara, we will definatelly book another stay.Guest review byMarrinBulgaria

- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.2Very good - What previous guests thought, 667 reviewsA self-contained room with all the amenities located in a quiet street with a short pleasant walk to Nara Station and all the monuments. It was a great base for day tripping and sightseeing. I liked that you could leave the key at the reception during the day so it wouldn't be lost. The staff were very kind and helpful. The hotel also has a sweet souvenir shop in the lobby where you can buy locally made gifts, which was nice.Guest review byYaraAustralia
- From £81.67 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 102 reviewsI stayed in the old bulding and had the pleasure to listen to waterfall and frog sounds from the nearby river all night. Very soothing. The place has a great retro atmosphere, clean and nice onsen and great food. On top of that, when I inquired about public buses to Koyasan from near villages, I was told by the receptionist he will take me there the next morning via car. Free of charge. What a service!Guest review byChristianCzech Republic

Very nice old hotel, but very nicely maintained, super clean. Fantastic atmosphere. Super comfortable beds and sheets. Delicious multiple course dinner and breakfast. In the middle of the Nara Park. You can go everywhere by walking. There are deers also in the park of the hotel. They are very cute bowing at you to get deer biscuits. Beautiful place!Guest review byMartaHungary

Nara is beautiful.
Nara is beautiful. There are two UNESCO world heritage sites and lots of deer. If you are afraid of animals, I don't recommend it. The deer will follow you if you have food and they may try to take it from you if you hesitate or don't gently push them away. They are not, as a general rule, aggressive. A lot of tourists freak out and just throw their crackers. Don't do that. Stay calm. The deer don't want to hurt you, they just want a snack. They don't care for being pet either. Just snap your crackers (200 yen sold at different stands) into 3-4 pieces, hold out your hand flat and let them take it from you. Be aware of how many are around you. They will surround and nibble your clothing. I found this hilarious. I grew up with cows and they will pretty much do the same thing. Use your voice and be gentle. The one day bus pass is really useful. I wish I had more time in Nara.Guest review bySarahUnited States - 10.0

Tenri is not as well-known as Nara or Asuka, but the area is dotted with dozens of key-hole shaped kofun, ancient burial mounds. Some are accessible and many are how they have been for hundreds of years.Guest review byBernadetteJapan - 10.0

Super cute, booked to get away from too much city went from kyoto, osaka, and tokyo. This was only 1 hour by train from osaka so perfect train distance for a small away trip. Very cute and nice would recommendGuest review byAnonymous - 10.0
Nara Koen (park) is a beautiful place.
Nara Koen (park) is a beautiful place. Todaiji and Kasuga Kaisha is located nearby. The Sarusawa Ike (pond) behind the Nara Park leads to shopping place. One can spend whole day around Nara. - Beware of the deer, they might get a bit aggressive when offering food. - It gets crowded during on-season.Guest review byLopa - 10.0
I love the deer and the ambiance of Nara.
I love the deer and the ambiance of Nara. Arrive early and expect crowds. As with anything else, the further you walk from the main area, you can stumble across more peaceful and secluded places. I would avoid Nara on the weekend, if possible. Deer can be friendly (and bow politely to ask for a treat) or aggressive (grabbing items out of your bag, biting your clothing, or being over-zealous). Keep your crackers high or out of sight and feel free to walk away from deer that are not vibing.Guest review byAmyUnited States
