- From £229.88 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.3Very good - What previous guests thought, 339 reviewsThis was a luxurious treat and we all enjoyed it from the welcome by the general manager, the hot spring bath, the food, the room. One of our group had a massage which was very good and reasonably priced. Breakfast was an amazing buffet of Japanese and Western dishes. The hotel provided transport by shuttle bus to and from the hotel. Communications via booking.com worked well.Guest review byJohnUnited Kingdom
- From £68.76 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 88 reviewsThe room was traditional and surprisingly large. The location very near to the train station was great and the food was lovely. We were served a wonderful steamed fish dish for dinner along with a delicious sake tasting. The host really made us feel welcome. Tsuwano is a real gem, and I would totally recommend Hoshi Ryokan.Guest review byMarieNew Zealand

Fantastic scenery and food.
Fantastic scenery and food. Check out the beaches to the North but don't worry about the local mountain lookouts. They were all atrocious one lane roads in bad condition which only took you 3/4's of the way up the mountain which was then followed by your needing to walk another 1000 steps or more to get to the top. Good if you want the cardio but terrible in the middle of summer.Guest review byStevenAustralia - 10.0

You can literally stay here all day as there's so much to see whether it's big or something so small. There are many eateries around. Get the bus from izumo station it doesn't take long. Remember take an umbrella as it gets quite hot. And just enjoy what is around 😃Guest review byMadhattaAustralia - 8.0

Masuda itself is quite small with not much to do but it is close to Hagi and there are a lot of beautiful beaches in the area if you are here when the weather is nice. We had exceptionally good food while staying in this small onsen town. Both Japanese and fantastic "yoshoku" western foodGuest review bycharlotteUnited Kingdom - 10.0

For tourists looking for an authentic ryokan experience, the Noren Yado Meigetsu can't be beat. Shoji screens, tatami floors, and soft down comforters -- but with modern toilet, shower, and soaking tub made our stay wonderful. The host family is also extraordinarily kind and helpful explaining how things work and what ingredients are in each dish or how to cook certain dishes at your table. And the meals are delicious and beautiful! Our stay in Tsuwano was made especially memorable by the family who run the Noren Yado Meigetsu ryokan.Guest review byJoanUnited States - 10.0

We loved staying in the mountains next to Kiyomizudera where we could see the pagoda from our room and beautiful green forest with ancient trees. We enjoyed walking around the temple area and saw some wild boar. It is a peaceful, quiet and tranquil place to stay after spending time in big cities. The owner will pick you up and take you to the station in their bus free of charge if you contact them in advance. They also took us to the Adachi Art Museum and back free of charge. It was a very special place to stay. The breakfast and dinner were included and very generous with lots of local specialities.Guest review byBronwyn DewarAustralia - 10.0

Okinoshima was fun, there were a few nice attractions & the views were stunning and it left a lasting impression. Probably one of the best places you can go for a fishing or camping trip although it would be great if there was a few more things to do for children there. Something for the kids to learn about the nature and animals clearly. Unfortunately some of the roads we had to go down were very overgrown with plants growing out of the road and branches hitting the car. This was an issue on the way to candle island lookout, it's possibly that the navi took us down a shortcut road but it was a little dangerous and would scratch up most cars. There were some sights that we couldn't access even though they were advertised as accessible. Overall it was a highly positive experience and will definitely come back.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Matsue is a 400-year old city so there is a lot of history. Learn about it at the great Matsue History museum which is close to the castle, Lafcadio Hearn museum, and nice shops. The many rivers within the city and very large lakes like Shinji come right up to the city. You can beautiful views of the lakes on trips to Izumo shrine, and Yuushien and Adachi museums. Our 5 full days were not enough. People were very welcoming.Guest review bydkwJAPANJapan - 10.0

Izumo is such a historical significance place for Japan, is a must visit if you want to know Japan history and culture. Not to miss is the soba as the texture is slightly more chewy. And of cause the onsen, is great! Did I mention the people are super friendly which made my stay unforgettable.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0

Matsue is a beautiful smaller town with an amazing castle and grounds, samurai houses and lovely streets to wander around. We did an afternoon train trip to a stunning temple in Izumo and also to a nearby onsen town. Matsue is a gem as it has so many wonderful sites to visit without the crowds of Kyoto. We will definitely be going back.Guest review byGeorgieAustralia - 10.0

Izumo is known as "Land of Shinto God" and many Japanese legends has its root here. A must visit place for anyone is Izumo Taisha which is very famous throughout Japan. Many Japanese come to pray for good life and especially in LOVE aspect because the main deity enshrined here is Okuninushi which is regarded by Shintoism as "God of nation-building, agriculture, medicine, protective magic and marriage". Izumo also known for its local cuisine which is "Izumo Soba" which is highly reagarded as one of three best Soba in Japan, you will find many Soba restaurant to serve this menu. So don't miss the opportunity to try it! However, if you are addicted to shopping or love the bustling big city's life, this little town has almost zero to offer. So if you are not the one who love Japanese mythology, Shintoism or the quietness of rural area then this town is not a place for you!!! (It is also 956 KM from Tokyo, so it take a lot of time to come here even Shinkansen+Limited Express train from Tokyo will takes about 6 hours or atleast 1.5 hours by plane)Guest review byTomapat V.Thailand
