- From £185.43 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.3Superb - What previous guests thought, 671 reviewsThe staff, food, rooms, and osen were amazing! We booked the streetview room with the private hotspring bath. We wish we stayed longer to fully enjoy the facilities and relax at this lovely hotel. We even had yukatas and slippers to wear during our stay. The dinner and breakfast were so delicious and the staff were very kind and accommodating. They even had a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park. Highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to visit the area.Guest review byMonikaCanada
- From £160.31 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 44 reviewsThe lounge is absolutely the highlight, here the Grand Phenix shares three things with you: great local draft beer, a gentle Okushiga snowing view, and a warm firepit. This lounge is so special that you can wait for your dinner table (because of the tight reservation in Christmas season) there while drinking your drinks by a bonfire, this even makes waiting a wonderful experience...Guest review byTeddypicnicChina

It's an extremely good value for the money. The staff is very friendly and helpful, I made a mistake the day before and accidentally orderen a buss to the station instead of the monkey park, but the staff helped me right away and I got a buss in just 10 minutes 😊Guest review byAlexanderNorway

For a tourist location, it was hard to find restaurants open, or willing to seat us (a party of five). But in general the food was good and the location was great for hot springs and access to the snow monkey park.Guest review byTimUnited States - 8.0
I think I would have stayed a little longer (than 3 nights)...
I think I would have stayed a little longer (than 3 nights) to take advantage of the skiing and the onsen's (alternate between the two!), to relax for longer in the Japanese countryside. (I did not come to Japan to just check off the tourist sites...) The town has narrow streets to walk on, even without gps you cannot get lost as it is more or less parallel to the river, especially the more tourist section with all the onsens.Guest review byChristine SoonCanada - 10.0

The Onsen hot springs experience was unique and for anyone wanting to see how the Japanese hold this aspect of their beliefs in such high regard this area is a perfect example and for a couple of days you can immerse yourself in a different cultural and culinary experience that will be the highlight of your holiday and the truest insight of this unique way of life.Guest review byHelen SUnited Kingdom - 10.0
Great little town as a base for seeing the amazing snow...
Great little town as a base for seeing the amazing snow monkeys. The walk to the monkeys was very pleasant (but it is advisable to wear wellingtons as it is very mucky). There are many small Ryokans in the town - sadly all of varying standards. Our recommended one was Tsuyuru Ryokan. Great little place run by the amazing Yoko.Guest review byFionaSouth Africa
