For $9 I got a basic but good room with a good bed and decent bathroom. There's a nice big pool surrounded by a lovely terras with lots of plants, the restaurant serves good drinks and food, the lobby is really cool, there's a good pool table (bad sticks though which is a shame)all set in a lovely old colonialstyle hotel. Just a wee bit out of town (which I like) but tuktuks are so cheap so that doesn't matter anyway and you can easily walk as well. There were all sorts of people of all ages. Battambang is more like a working town and far less touristy...
Battambang is more like a working town and far less touristy than Siem Reap. You get to see more of traditional Cambodia here but the town doesn’t have a huge selection of restaurants and bars. The bamboo train and visit to the killing caves is very good. We ate in our hotel each evening as couldn’t find anything that we wanted to go into town for as it was too far to walk. It is a quieter place than Siem Reap and less developed but that is a bonus - some good restaurants and the Phare Circus school was great. Battambang is starting to see more travelers, so the place is gradually improving. Prices are similar to Siem Reap. In the city, it is worth visiting: Wat Kandal, Domrey Sor Pagoda.
