Hemantha, the owner and manager of hotel and his son Dulana have built a truly beautiful pearl in the middle of the rainforest. With excellent English, they took care of us and fulfilled all our wishes. This is our fifth time in Sri Lanka, but we visited Kitulgala for the first time during our travels and I can recommend this area to everyone to visit. Waterfalls in the middle of the forest and rafting on the river are among the great experiences that this hotel offers you at a very fair price. And then you can let yourself be pampered in the comfort of the hotel with great food and enjoy a bath in the beautiful natural pool or right in the small clean river that flows around the hotel. We arranged for my in-laws to stay at this hotel as a special birthday gift for my father-in-law, and it turned out to be the best decision we could have made. This stay was a real treat, we loved it. The location was perfect for us and the accommodation is set in beautiful lush surroundings right on the river. The rooms were spacious and common areas very well done. Relaxing on the balcony with the river was just wonderful. Highly recommend this place, the food was so amazing we ate every meal here, they arranged our outings for us, we had so much fun white water rafting, canyoning and abseiling waterfalls and the staff were very attentive and friendly. Swimming in the river was better than any pool.

Everything about our stay was incredible. The staff made our stay extra special. Our room had a private pool which faced the jungle and it was very relaxing to enjoy a dip in the heated pool while being inside the jungle and listening to the river water flowing below. We had monkeys visiting our balcony in the morning. The retreat is facing the river and featured a natural pool for guests to enjoy. Indoneel went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and pleasure, he has even surprised us with a romantic candle dinner. Lalith, the Chef, prepared amazing meals for us and was super kind and friendly too. The retreat had an accommodation for our driver which was a great gesture. I would highly recommend this place and would love to stay there again. P.S. they said the food there was halal, which was a great addition

It's really great location. From balony you can watch elephants during their river bath. To the river when you can watch elephants you have like 30 second walk. Breakfast is included. Good one. And the staff of hotel is very kind and helpful. Highly recommended!

    Our stay with Anushka and his family has been a highlight of our trip! The moment we arrived we were welcomed with coffee and cake (and beer!) and from that point on felt so incredibly well looked after. We also enjoyed two delicious evening dinners with dishes cooked by different members of the family, and they even rustled up a cake for our friend’s birthday :) Anushka himself is knowledgeable and engaging and we learnt so much about Sri Lanka and its recent history. He is also an excellent guide and can organise everything needed for a day trip. Accommodation is basic but perfectly comfortable and we loved our elevated eating deck where you could watch the fireflies from a distance. 2 nights was not long enough, we look forward to visiting again some day!

    The property is a homestay and Mona is an excellent host. We were treated like family and even though we had some difficulty reaching the location she followed our journey and sent someone out to guide us. When we arrived it was late but she still went out of her way to serve us a tasty local dinner and breakfast. The location is very remote and the natural pool with small waterfall on the property is something we enjoyed immensely. Thank you again for your hospitality and highly recommended!

    Absolutely wonderful to stay here. After a long flight from The Netherlands we wanted to get out of colombo and went straight here. Very nice breakfast, lunch and dinner. Keep in mind that you're off the main road and are not close to any shop. Relaxation is key here. Staff is very friendly and will happily tell you about their location, tea plantations they own and manage, and also the food! 😁

    The town is just a town with shops, supermarket etc.

    The town is just a town with shops, supermarket etc. For food, my tour guide Prashan brought me to Upcountry Restaurant which is a nice place with a beautiful scenery. :) Go for the attractions like Bible Rock, Saradiel Hill etc. They are nice.

    I love the concept behind the cave.

    I love the concept behind the cave. The cave and the eco-tourism concept should be further developed, as it has the potential to greatly benefit Sri Lanka’s tourism industry. I believe Yatiyanthota has great potential to develop Sri Lanka’s eco-tourism. With its rich natural beauty, it can attract more visitors. However, we need to work hard to create more attractions and make this destination a unique tourist magnet.

    Pinnawala basically has 4 main attractions therefore a maximum of 2 days is sufficient. The main attraction is the elephant orphanage. Related to that is the elephant bathing at the nearby river which is fascinating. Remember the ticket you purchase for the orphanage is required for the bathing so do both in the same day as the tickets technically only valid for the day (we did not know this so we went to the orphanage in the evening and went to see the bathing the next day.. however the kind ticket officers let us go). Then there is a mini zoo where animals roam in more space than usual. You can feed animals here which could be fascinating (for a small fee). Then there is a traditional village called Iparini Gama where you can experience live style of a traditional sri lankan village.

    Spectacular area to get up and close with elephants. Unique experience with elephants walking thru the village for their daily bathing. General accommodation facilities were good. Bars and eateries also of reasonable standard. We stayed at Grand Royal Pinnalanda and found this quite satisfactory in services and value.
