Ixtapa is obviously focused on the tourist money.
Ixtapa is obviously focused on the tourist money. Taxi service is good, but bus schedules are sketchy. If you come to go fishing, you can take a taxi to the Zihuantanejo harbor for 150 pesos. I recommend finding a good taxi driver, as we did, and get his card and use the same driver for all your travel needs. Ixtapa has limited shopping for groceries, but Zihuantanejo has a Sams club and larger grocery stores. The Delfiniti Swim with Dolphins venue has gone downhill and is very expensive. There is limited beach access, but the large hotels now claim their beaches as private. Dining is costly so come prepared! Be prepared for hot temps with lots of humidity! Welcoming, friendly, happy supportive community of people-locals, artists, fishermen, shop and restaurant owners, expats. Excellent clean beaches, especially La Madera uncrowded and delicious restaurants, especially on the beaches. Wonderful shopping celebrating the creativity and the diversity of the artistic products produced by the local Mexican people. Walkable. Safe. Shared shuttle & taxi available for longer distances. This was my first time visiting Ixtapa.
This was my first time visiting Ixtapa. It is a beautiful tropical area. I felt very safe. Easy to get around in. Beautiful walkways, and bicycle paths. Driving around is very easy. Beautiful weather, beautiful town, the airport is a super quick customs experience, people are super friendly and as always (I’ve probably travelled to Mexico 20+ times) I didn’t feel unsafe or uncomfortable at any moment. Consistent hot day or night. Easy and safe to get around. Lots of resorts to pick from. Beaches are clean and no seaweed. Zihuatanejo is a short cab ride away to visit and shop in. Tons to great restaurants near Miramar Beach Zihuatanejo. El Vado is an awesome little boutique restaurant highly recommend. Great energy along the promenade.
Great energy along the promenade. Lots of expat retirees and local families. The town has covered sidewalks to keep you out of the heat. Many different beaches with completely different vibes. We preferred Maderas beach for cleanliness and walking distance to town. Playa la ropa was super crowded - we didn’t stay. Playa Troncones is wonderful, quiet, you can hear the waves on the open ocean - not for swimming with children, strong undertow.Guest review byAnonymous
