Vietnamese Restaurant was excellent and not expensive.
Vietnamese Restaurant was excellent and not expensive. Thai Orchid had lovely live music on Sunday evening and wonderful atmosphere and music. Many restaurants close by. Hagley Park was within walking distance and had an amazing light show, Illuminate.Guest review byMichaelNew Zealand - 10.0
I adore Lake Tekapo. Views for days. Good hot pools.
I adore Lake Tekapo. Views for days. Good hot pools. Peaceful. A decent serious hike up Mt John to the Observatory Cafe or an easier one up to Cowes Lookout, both with amazing views. I've been going for years - still small but a good supermarket now and more eateries. It is getting busier and pricey, both accommodation and eateries. On the road to Queenstown so an easy stopover. Go with a car if you can - a side trip into Aoraki Mt Cook and walks up the Hooker Valley are worth it.Guest review byHeatherAustralia - 10.0

Mount Cook Village is a great location if you are planning to do some walks in the area. We did the Hooker Valley Track, Sealy Tarn Track, and the Tasman Glacier View after which we were exhausted and travelling to another location would have been a bit much. Staying at the village was the best decision. At night you can travel slightly out to get the most exceptional views of stars and in the morning you wake up to unbelievably beautiful views of mountains. If you are lucky you might just get some snow.Guest review byWaldoNew Zealand - 10.0
Scenic, lots to do and locals are friendly.
Scenic, lots to do and locals are friendly. Really easy to get around the town centre on foot, everything is close together. Recommend stopping at some cellar doors in Waipara on the way through if you are coming from Christchurch. We hiked, went quad biking with Hanmer Springs Attractions, visited the Hanmer Springs Pools, dined out and shopped at various locations.. We even hired a Rocket bike to do a lap of town and get our bearings. We drove up the Hanmer Springs Ski Area but unfortunately, lack of snow and windy weather prevented us having a day of snow sports. Charming townGuest review byHannahNew Zealand - 10.0

Kaikoura can be overlooked as a destination, but is definitely worth an overnight stay or more, great vibe with restaurants, cafes, shops and first class hotel, Lots of walks, suitable for all levels of fitness from a stroll on the beach to a hike over to South Bay and back. the seal colony, or go whale watching, or just take in the views.Guest review bykarenNew Zealand - 10.0
Opuke Thermal Pools & Spa are a must see, must do.
Opuke Thermal Pools & Spa are a must see, must do. World class! The mountains are beautiful. If you have transport, close by is Ashburton, Lake Coleridge and much more. The information centre in Methven, "I-Hub" is a wealth of information and things to do. Off the beaten track, an alive, looked after, vibrant small town NZ with genuine charm and a smile. My wife and I loved it, we will be back.Guest review byStevenNew Zealand - 8.0

My husband and I have been coming to Twizel for several years now. My husband comes for the fishing and I for the photography. We have stayed in all seasons. This time it was July middle of winter. Didn't catch any fish but I got some great photos. Had a lovely meal out at Poppies. Would recommend them. We were disappointed with our accommodation, but it didn't ruin our stay in Twizel.Guest review byUdenNew Zealand - 8.0

A pleasant town to visit with good restaurants and boutique shops. The Thai Sukhothai restaurant is one of the best in New Zealand. Bustling port exporting logs, cement and seafood. Good beaches are a runaway hit with young families.Guest review byCorreia - 8.0

Pleasant and friendly country city with easy access and roads. Quality shopping and food outlets. Close to rivers, lake and mountains and handy on why to Dunedin. Two very interesting museum - aviation and old world. The park gardens are superb for walks and picnic.Guest review byNevinNew Zealand - 10.0
