Initially, I was skeptical about booking this establishment due to mixed reviews. However, my stay in room 58 in the round building exceeded expectations. The accommodations were clean, spacious, and quiet. The guest laundry facility is a bonus. Overall, I would gladly return given the opportunity.

Really enjoyed our stay at The Crown Hotel. The room size was great and the location was excellent as it was close to many of the restaurants along the wharf. The fact that it was a 7-8 min drive from central Napier really did not matter at all.

The people in Napier - everyone I came across - were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Everything seemed easily accessible and the art deco styling is very appealing, well done without being 'tacky'

    The shopping area was convenient.

The shopping area was convenient. I liked how the Warehouse and other shops were close by and a nice cafe/bakery was amongst it. Found it easy to get from one area to another with our GPS. Trying out Popeyes fast food was a interesting experience. Too spicy but then two of us were old codgers!!

So much to do here and everything is close.

So much to do here and everything is close. Vineyards, restaurants/cafes are very good, Te Mata Peak is great for a short/long walk, The Market on Sunday was lovely and the shops are individually owned so lots of interesting things. Wardini Books is worth a visit. Andreas Hair and beauty was welcoming at short notice. Loved Havelock North

    Wairoa is totally underrated.

Wairoa is totally underrated. I know it's got a reputation for gangs and gang fights over the years but it took me by surprise for the following reasons: 1. The river walk was one of the most serene and best river walks I've had around NZ towns... and I've practically been everywhere in NZ. 2. The Norfolk Pine along the river were some of the most mature and magnificent trees I've seen. They definitely rival the ones along the Napier-Hastings motorway. 3. The road to the beach was literally 5 mins away from our accommodation. You get a fantastic view of the South Pacific Ocean and over the mountain range westward, you can watch some fantastic sunsets. I spent my 2022 New Years here and I saw off 2021 with a fantastic orange/yellow sunset (the kind you see in Bali).

Waipukurau is one one of those people tend to just drive through - but it has a great network of trails along the river, nice coffee and is close to Waipawa. Its a relaxing place with nice pastoral scenery.

This is a great place for a quiet, relaxing stay, with access to nearby beach walks and walking trails in the Ta Mata National Park. Don't come if you want night life or nearby restaurants. You're in the countryside, and the nearest town (Napier) is a bout 15km away..

Te Awanga was our choice of location as we were interested in Cape Kidnappers, the wineries and accomodation with a bay view. We stayed at the Winemakers Cottage and it was exceptional. Te Awanga has a great cafe Huegge right on the beach. Gannet Tours operate from here (but there are no gannets in winter!) Trips up to the Cape Kidnappers Golf Course are not eay to arrange and I think the price if you get there may be exclusive. You can walk around the base of Kidnappers Bay to the gannet colony. It is a bit risky as the cliffs have rockfalls and the beach is made of black rocks which make walking a bit tricky. Great access to Hastings, Napier, Havelock north and Ocean Beach. Craggy Range Winery, Elephant Hill, and Clearview are all easily accessible.

The food, shopping and beautiful Art Deco buildings were a highlight of Napier. We visited the Cabana, Napiers olders (maybe NZ's olders) live music venues and saw a great band. The beach was typical of Hawke's Bay with black pebbles. In the morning we visited the lookout over the harbour and across the bay.

Hastings is part of the Hawkes Bay region.

Hastings is part of the Hawkes Bay region. Napier is a much nicer place. Hastings town was empty with no shops or places to eat at night. Would stay in Napier & explore everything from there rather than basing your stay in Hastings. Surrounding areas offered things to do but you need your own transport. Excellent wineries but again operate during the day.

I loved the township, cafes, restaurants and shopping. A surprisingly good food scene ( we loved Mary,s)We enjoyed the wineries, especially Craggy Range. Loved that the wineries were so accessible from the hotel by both car and taxi. The views up at Te Mata Peak were stunning.
