The perfect location for a quiet, peaceful stay right in the middle of the Nikau Forest!. The beds were comfy and there was everything you needed in the kitchen. We stayed in Ruru Lodge, plenty of room for me and my friend in our bedroom. A good size lodge which is a little tired, the bathrooms need an upgrade. Really good value for money. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.Guest review byDeborahNew Zealand - 8.0

Charleston is very small town with old history from the gold fever time. Very quiet place. There are some activities as underground caves. You can also visit near old gold mine or to do short beach walk.Guest review byJIRICzech Republic - 10.0
Nature at its best!
Nature at its best! We visited the Pancake Rocks twice, once at low tide and once at high tide, to see the contrast. It took us about 45 minutes each time but it was worth it to us. Wish we could come back in a million years to see what has disappeared due to erosion, earthquakes, etc. There is also a very good restaurant--Punakaiki Rocks--in the village, which has interesting decorations and tasty food.Guest review bythierryCanada - 10.0

Barrytown itself is small but there is a good tavern, All Nations, where you can get a meal, drinks, and friendly local company. It's worth booking a tour with Golden Sands Horse and Wagon Tours for some history of the area and an old-time experience. An easy drive north from Barrytown to Punakaike and Trueman Track or South to Greymouth.Guest review byAnneNew Zealand - 10.0
Location and completely and excellently equipped facility.
Location and completely and excellently equipped facility. This isn’t Charleston, only as crow flies nearest town by road is Westport. Go to Cape Foulwind following seal colony signs and when you hit the sea and right is to the seals…. Turn left and follow Okari road for the full length beyond tarmac on to gravel stretch and Linga Longa is there at the end of the bay. Wonderful place for a relaxing, private, perfect West Coast experience. We prepared food rather than drive to eat out. Complete kitchen and BBQ etc. and views to please the eye.Guest review byjohnUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Well worth a visit. Punakaiki rocks is a must to see. free parking and no entrance fees. The walk is easy with only a few rock stairs to climb towards the end. The views are simply stunning. We could also see dolphins.Guest review byLynleyNew Zealand - 8.0

I wanted a cheap overnight stay close to my route, more comfortable than sleeping in the car. This was perfect. Very basic cabin with a bed, table and chairs. Toilet and showers were shared but clean and close. There is a tavern 5 minute walk away for lunch and evening meal. I had breakfast in West port a 30 minute drive away as I was on the road early.Guest review byMartyn
