- From £120.42 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 918 reviewsA Gem of a place, nestled in the foothills, 5 mins drive from the old city of Monsaraz. An almost all women team of efficient, ever helpful and friendly crew run this pristine white and blue walled resort with 2 swimming pools, cabanas, spacious rooms, sit outs, good breakfast (the best selection of fruit i have seen in Europe) ample parking The night sky is stunning here. Do book a slot at the observatory 7-8 min ride away. We also attended the June 1st beginning of Summer beach party at the Praia Fleuvial, one tip of the beautiful lake Alonqueva - great music and dance on the beach.. Also do the one hour boat cruise.Guest review byPshabiIndia

Decked out in marble, the rooms and facilities are incredible. The owner owns a marble quarry, so the design of the hotel is fully fitted out in marble. It is rare and world class. The daily breakfast was impeccable and the servers were so kind and spoke in French, English and Portuguese. The staff went over and above and we booked in a wine tasting with the chef of the restaurant and it was amazing!!Guest review byBrittFrance

Evora has plenty of history both culturally and gastronomically. Wonderful stuff. The inner city is small and very accessible by foot. I do not recommend driving within the walls. We were lucky to access a location to stay that was very close to public parking just outside the walls. Find locations to eat in side streets, they’re much more intimate and authentic. We settled on Baiuca, husband and wife that served and cooked.Guest review byChristopher - 10.0

It took longer to retrieve our rental car from Lisbon than we expected, and we stopped in Evora on our way to Monsaraz. We arrived late and left in the morning, leaving little time to explore. A full day is probably enough, which we intended to have but misjudged the time navigating the transportation. Driving through town was an adventure with the very narrow and steep streets. The restaurant was very traditional, and felt authentic. We would recommend a stop in this charming old town.Guest review byMarcie - 10.0

History, history, history, the perfect place for a walking tour with so much variety, and very good food plus friendly helpful service. The only drawback was the bus station, where a begger seems to hang out asking everyone for money, and the absence of an obvious persons selling bus tickets. You have to know to go to the bar to buy a ticket.Guest review byIanCanada - 8.0
Very cute Historic Fortified Town.
Very cute Historic Fortified Town. Its very well cared for, very easy to access and visit. Never forget that this is a town on the top of a hill, so there are a lot of walking up and down to visit it properly. We enjoyed a lot the experience. There are only a few restaurants, really just a few and I think they only cater to the tourist and, we followed the google maps rating to choose one and we did very bad. The food was not good at all for the prices charged, So I think in terms restaurants there they just try to take advantage of the tourists visiting , charging high prices and offering very plain not well prepared food, a tourist trap. We found a great excellent coffee shop by the old castle entrance (not the city main entrance). The nice lady served great 5* coffee.Guest review byJoaoPortugal - 10.0

Alandroal had many villages close by each other.
Alandroal had many villages close by each other. Driving was really easy, no stress with driving or parking. Villages had food, sites and ways to enjoy the day. Each took just the right amount of time to explore. And, they don't take an usual time to get from one to the next. I am a vegetarian and my experience in the long past is that I would find nothing to eat.... Portugal has come a long way offering vegetarian and vegan options.Guest review byAnonymousUnited States - 10.0

The museum (Centro Interpretativo do Tapete de Arraiolos) is reaaly worth visiting. Tapestry had never interested me before, and I learned a lot on our visit. It made like tapestry, who would have guessed! Food is great on the 4 restaurants we ate in, but expensive on 3 of them. Only República das Empadas had a good price for our pockets.Guest review byJoãoPortugal - 8.0

Evora is a rather good place to center your visit to Alentejo. In itself has many places worth the visit and time to be spent but is also close to other towns and villages that have interesting heritageGuest review byCristinaCanada - 8.0
Monsaraz, more specifically the castle, is certainly a must...
Monsaraz, more specifically the castle, is certainly a must for anyone visiting Alentejo. The view is absolutely breathtaking, overseeing the Alqueva dam and the beautiful Alentejo. It's also quite rich in history, weaved into its quaint rocky streets and schist houses. Like its "big cousin" Marvão, the sunsets are particularly stunning. I know they aren't related, but they do feel similar ok? However, the citadel is not ideal for people with lower mobility or not ready to spend too much in the many tourist-focused restaurants. A couple hours should be enough for a tour, since it's not very big. The region itself do deserve some more time. Feel free to take a dip in Alqueva, do a hike in the countryside dotted by millennia old megalithic monuments or simply star gaze.Guest review byM. CardosoPortugal
