First of all the location is close to the mountain and very quiet, very suitable to take a break from the annoying urban noise. We stayed in the mountain cabin which is separate from the hotel but it has all the confort. It’s even better if you really want to have privacy and quiet. The room is very clean, food excellent and the stuff super friendly. There is a spa area in the hotel, but we didn’t try it. The are some nearby attractions, like the cable car in Borsa, the Merry Cemetery in Sapanta, the Horses Waterfall and many others.

    The sights were gorgeous, the buildings were rustic and traditional to the point where you felt transported back into the past. The staff were great, super helpful, even if it seemed they were a little understaffed and overwhelmed by the amount of people, and the food was FANTASTIC. The atmosphere was amazing and cozy, with traditional music and the staff dressed in traditional clothes. Oh yeah and there's like 3 or 4 cats, which is amazing if you're an animal lover because they're so used to humans, they're cuddly, want pets all the time, and they're comfortable just lounging in the middle of the room.

    This place is unique. The guesthouse is surrounded by beautiful nature. There is a lake and a river on the property, where sunbeds and umbrellas are placed. The rooms are tidy and clean. The owner of the guesthouse is very nice. We felt at home. The food was exceptional and very tasty. Everything was prepared from fresh homemade ingredients. We will remember these delicacies for a long time. When we arrived at the place, the owner even prepared dinner for us upon request. I definitely recommend this place to everyone. We will definitely come back here. Thank you for everything 🙂

    Very nice place with charming, full of flowers, backyard with two big gazebos for meals, including the main one with a grill and many other things listed in the offer. Also coffee from the coffee-machine always available. Moreover a beautiful view from the backyard to the highest peak of Rodna Mountains = Pietrosul Rodnei of 2,303 m. But the most significant is a warm hospitality of the landlords.

    Super Clean, the spa is getting cleaned every single morning, the room are well build and designed to fit in everything perfectly. The closets are huge. Exceptional Breakfast and the stuff is super friendly and helpful. You can compare it to Balvanyos, but if you take into consideration the price for what you get, Hotel Roman is the winner for sure!

    Baia Mare is a nice city with a a small historical center which whorth it as a city break in the region. I have arrived and left here by train. Don't be scared by the train station, the city is different.

    Borsa was previously the center of Marmarosz mining region.

    Borsa was previously the center of Marmarosz mining region. The town developed mainly for miners was not beautiful. If the authorities of Borsa wish to transform the town to the touristic centre, the city must completely be renown. The renovation of old architecture is necessary. Open electric lines along every street must be cancelled, and all cables should be nested under the ground. Much more operations must be done to transform Borsa into a genuine touristic centre. Touristic resorts mus possess a unique and specific atmospere to attract domestic and foreign tourist.. I suggest the authorities of Borsa to visit Mayerhofen in Austrian Tirol or even Zakopane in Poland. At present time Borsa is attractive for those who are interested in mountain hiking. Greater numer of pathes should be marked, and kept in good conditions. Detailed maps of Munti Rodnei should be available.

    Our stay here was simply outstanding.

    Our stay here was simply outstanding. The accommodation is designed in beautiful traditional Romanian folk style – everything was clean, new, and absolutely charming. Parking was perfect for motorcycles, safely inside the courtyard. The host was amazing – he spoke excellent English, and in the evening we had a great conversation about his country. He even offered us his own homemade pálinka without asking for any extra payment. We enjoyed dinner on a gorgeous terrace, where he had prepared plates and cutlery for us free of charge. In the morning, as soon as we woke up, coffee was already prepared without us even having to ask. And just 10 meters from the accommodation is the famous Merry Cemetery, which we could enjoy all to ourselves early in the morning. A perfect place with true Romanian warmth and hospitality – highly recommended!

    Narrow one lane Road leading to the village.

    Narrow one lane Road leading to the village. I was praying there would be no car coming in the opposite direction.To get to your property you may be on gravel Road. Keep this in mind when you plan your village stay. If you stay does not include food, make sure you grab some food before you head out to your hotel.

    Moisei is a cute mountain village located in Romania's Maramures region. It is home to the Moisei Monastery which is well worth a visit. The area is very scenic and nearby hiking trails lead in the Rodna National Park. For some real fun, bring your ATV. The area is full of wonderful scenic views of the valleys, pastures, forest, and mountains. Sunset was especially spectacular.

    Close-by an annual festival held between 2 counties, Hora la Prislop, it's the reason we visited the area. Anyway, being a mountain city, it's a perfect location for starting hiking trails or for winter sports.

    We spent one night in Sapinta to visit the Merry Cemetery, and stayed and ate at Plai cu Peri which was excellent. Would have loved to stay an extra night for more down time but you really only need a day there. The Merry Cemetery is really beautiful and definitely worth visiting. Go early before it gets too busy.

    Breb was an excellent village to visit. I came during the off season, in the winter. It was very peaceful and offered many nature scenes to enjoy. I felt very grateful to be welcomed into this community as it definitely felt very traditional. I was always careful to be respectful and quiet and even subtle in my photography on occasion. It made me feel very comfortable to walk around. The fields and the hay baling in the traditional style is very neat. Coming from Nebraska, I appreciate rural communities. It's a very nice place for a relaxing retreat. There are also other places you can reach but you will need a car or some sort of transportation. I stayed in the village as I had come from nearby Baia Mare where I live currently. This is a special place to visit in Maramures. I recommend idyllic Breb!

Do NOT miss the Merry Cemetery in Sapanta Baia Mare is a pleasant town and a great base to explore the Maramures region, especially its famous UNESCO-listed wooden churches which are well worth seeing. Our favourite was Sudesti, it has been well restored and the iconostasis is very impressive, and Carmen who gave us a guide was friendly and very knowledgeable with good English. Most of the churches are not open all day but you can call a number to ask someone to come and open it up for you. There's a small fee per person (5-10 lei) for each church. The Merry Cemetery in Sapanta is extraordinary and unmissable, hundreds of graves which have been decorated with large crosses painted with images of the dead person and poems to their lives, a unique and beautiful local feature. The church is also large and impressively painted, when the golden haloes around the figures' heads catch the light the effect is breathtaking. By chance, we were visiting in the first week of November, just around the time of a Romanian traditional holiday when they decorate their cemeteries and hold services to remember the dead. We weren't able to enter one of the churches because there was a large service going on with hundreds of people outside, but we were pleased and honoured to be able to observe this community event. This made the Merry Cemetery even more impressive - the cemetery itself is a wonder in any case, but it was moving to be there at a time when so many locals were also there to decorate the graves of their loved ones
