Our stay at the hotel was a truly exceptional experience ... starting from breakfast, which was served individually and in a very pleasant way, through the overall atmosphere at the hotel, that was very calm and relaxing, beautiful premises with the touch of history, to the special Royal Bath treatment taking place in very unique part of the hotel that made our stay one of the most interesting. An unlimited use of the thermal aquapark was also one of the main reasons for choosing this hotel as we are a family with a child and it was very easy for us to just swith places whenever we wanted to have more fun during the day. The restaurant cuisine, the level of cleanliness and customer service is of a top quality and proofs the five star rating of the hotel.

    A lot of interesting nostalgia inside the hotel taking you back to Czechoslovakia former times. The staff let you choose another room if you’re not happy with the one you booked. Hotel is just a few steps to the Aupark shopping centre, and transportation. Probably the cheapest hotel in Slovakia so it’s easy on finances, and they never seem to be short on rooms due to the sheer size of the hotel. I’ve stayed there a few times, it’s not luxury, but great on the wallet.

    Fiendly staff that were very helpful and made our stay very pleasant and nice. Perfect location for lots of hikes. Nice food at the breakfast buffet and a very nice option to enjoy dinner here as well. All in all I could not be more satisfied with our stay here at Penzion Sagan.

    Our main goal was visiting Mala Fatra mountain range - which...

    Our main goal was visiting Mala Fatra mountain range - which was an excellent trip that we enjoyed very much - and traditional village Čičmany which was also a very interesting place. But, Žilina is also interesting place with very beautiful main square and lively restaurants with good food. From less ordinary places I can recommend visit to the railway station with some old signs from the times of Czechoslovakia and glass stained windows with motifs from the traditional folk culture. The garden close to the railway station (3 minute walk) is also nice with some interesting sculptures. If I would have 1-2 more days I would rent a bike and explore the town's side streets and suburbs in search of everyday's atmosphere, interesting details, murals, local caffes ... I find it in every place that I visit and I'm sure Žilina has a plenty of them.

    An old provincial town nestled in a valley between forested hills. Although only a few streets of older houses remain, it has a special significance in the country's cultural history, with a good ethnographic museum that looks dilapidated from the outside but is excellent inside. To the south-east is an open-air country life museum, which looked promising although there wasn't enough time to visit it. Nearby to the west is the country's first Via Ferrata, an excellent challenge requiring about 2-3 hours to climb up, plus the return walk down. Besides this the hills are full of trails and forest roads for hiking and exploring.

    Nice, sweet place, easy to find. It's packed with hotels and B&B's There is a grocery shop and a few stalls on the main square. Also a ping-pong table and man size chess on the square next to the ping-pong table. You can borrow the paddles and chess pieces from there somewhre, just ask at your hotel. We brought our paddles & ball so didn't need theirs. Would be worth visiting the SPA in Afrodita hotel, but we only stayed for 1 night and headed to the Lietava Castle in the morning. Enjoy & have fun! ;)

    Turcianske Teplice is a tiny, but picturesque spa town.

    Turcianske Teplice is a tiny, but picturesque spa town. It has an amazing large green park right in the centre, interesting historical buildings and, obviously, amenities featuring the town's renown thermal springs - a new Aqua park, old fashioned sanatorium, as well as a retro open air thermal swimming pools called 'Vieska'. Everything is within 5-10 mins walking distance, so there is no car needed for this trip. There is a decent choice of cafes and restaurants, good train connections, info centre and a couple of supermarkets. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing wellness break a train ride away, Turcianske Teplice is a place to go.

    A beautiful small village on the edge of the Velka Fatra national park, one of the most scenic parts of Slovakia. Easy access to hiking, with bike and electric scooter hire available from several places in the village. Basic shopping facilities (if you're self-catering), but the towns of Martin & Turcianska Teplice are close by, with supermarkets. If you don't have a car, you'll be reliant on the local bus service that takes you to Martin (or, with a change, Turcianska Teplice). From Martin there are excellent rail connections.

    We loved Žilina, very friendly locals, very pretty place. Great food and drink, went for a sporting trip, would definitely return! Great public transport, trolleybus stopped near the train station for our hotel and stopped a block away from the hotel.

    What a brilliant place to visit and even nicer people!!

    What a brilliant place to visit and even nicer people!! I hope I will continue to return for many more years and that I can find the time to stay longer in a future visit. The central town plaza is clean and pleasant with a wide variety of shops and places to eat. There are often public events that add to the strong sense of community. History, hospitality and a wonderful natural environment. Martin is a real hidden treasure!

    Really nice village, specially through summer. Close to the mountains, nice area for mountain biking, with plenty of place to rent ebikes. What I missed is some restaurant in the village, maybe I didn't checked them all.

    A town built to be lived in rather than for tourists. Few landmarks, fountains or statues. However, as the regional capital it has excellent transport links to all the castles, caves, ski resorts and thermal spas you could ever hope for. Great shopping with three modern shopping malls and plenty of clubs, pubs and casinos for the evenings. There is a small zoo slightly out of town to the south. It is an old town so navigating the maze of streets may not be intuitive at first, but it is small enough that you shouldn't ever get too lost.

Public transport also acceptable, but access the city by car is preferable due to reach good hiking starting points easier. Peaks (Ostredoks, Male and Velky Fatra, Ostra), rocks, forests, gorges all nice with children as well
