The location is already a bit in the mountains, far from busy roads and crowds. You can hear some frogs, birds, cicadas and some local poultry. Otherwise, it is really quiet. It is effectively in some cloud forest, with a nice view to valley and a river. Of course, you need a car to get there although it is only about 1h20m away (by car) from Taoyuan International Airport. The last few hundred meters is a rather steep narrow road. Anyway, the hospitality of the hosts has been above average. They were making sure we felt happy and relaxed. They also serve dinner with some local food (I ordered a mountain trout and it was delicious). It is served in a really nice semi-open place (with a choir of frogs some meters away) just for you and your small group. Since on the day we arrived there were only few guests, we got an upgrade to a bigger family room (with three beds and more space). As for the communication, we mainly used google translate, and it was sufficient. Breakfast is served in an open place with even better views. because of the elevation and the forest around, the temperature during the night must have been more comfortable than in some lower areas like Taipei or Taoyuan. Beds in the room were comfortable, aircon was working well but we switched it off during the night as keeping the windows open was as good while it allowed some natural night forest noises in. I wish we had a bit more time to spend there to explore the hiking trails nearby.
Very clean and comfortable. The Villa is beautifully designed and the room is so big. Mountain view is astounding. Breakfast is more than excellent. So much effort has been made to ensure breakfast menu is different on each of our three days' stay. Staff were extremely helpful. We were grateful to meet the Villa's owner who was so kind in helping us locate our next homestay in the neighbourhood and drove us there after we checked out. We will definitely stay here should we come to Lalashan again. Truly heavenly stay.

The scenery is beautiful but the traffic is very bad on weekends. Often the road becomes stuck with traffic on one lanes leading to queues of maybe 1 hour extra so be prepared. No toilets or petrol stations on the way up the mountain, windy roads and kids get car sick.
But, once there, the air is fresh, the scenery is beautiful. Try to go during the week.
Try to walk the national park and do the trail near visitor center, though tunnel tour only opens 25 Aug 2023
