The staff were very attentive and professional. I had to change rooms due to availability. In other hotels I’ve had to wait all day for the new room to be available. But at Hungary Mansion it was ready straight after breakfast.

The room was very spacious, elegantly decorated, high-end amenities, a perfect bathroom. The breakfast was one of the best I've experienced in the entire East Asia in 5-6 years of trips to the region.     Carrefour in Taroko Mall near Train station has good selection of grocery items. Prices are okay. Not far from seaside and beach, maybe one hour by bus. People were helpful, in general. However, bus station is difficult to find and people working there do not have the correct information. This was my biggest criticism of my stay.

    Highway 8 crossing central Taiwan from West to East.

    Highway 8 crossing central Taiwan from West to East. However, part the highway has been closed due to geohazar disaster. Heping the the last town on the way to the closed road. Heping is a small town, located by southern hill of the valley, and famoused with it's clear hot spring. Every year, Thousands of hounderd travelers came from around the world to stay here, to enjoy it hot spring, mountain trails, and special local mountain foods. It is a good place to plan for 2 days and 1 night stay.

    Rented a car in Taichung.

    Rented a car in Taichung. Went to Sun Moon Lake, Gao Mei Wetlands, Cinjing Farm and Zhongshe Flower Market. We had 3 nights in Taichung and I find that it was sufficient to enjoy these attractions. Driving around in Taichung is easier than in Taipei. The traffic was lighter and having a car in highly recommended.

    There is a great deal to see and do in Taichung.

    There is a great deal to see and do in Taichung. There are historical sites to visit as well as wonderful places to shop and an Art Museum. I visited for 6 days and was not able to visit all of the places that I had read about and wanted see.
