- From £972.58 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 9.5Exceptional - What previous guests thought, 160 reviewsWe stayed at Kilindi for 4 nights for our Honeymoon and are still without words. Kilindi exceeded our expectation in every regard & if we could give more than 10/10 we would. We were on an all-inclusive package, so delicious food (everything was so so so good & fresh) & great drinks all day (You have to try the Tropical Octopus Salad!). The entire property was beautiful - very natural, flowers, butterflies, covered in jungle forest where you frequently saw playful monkeys, lizards & the rare elephant shrews (so adorable!). Service was fantastic throughout. The Villas were beautiful and set far apart, so each occupant had their privacy. The design was absolutely gorgeous! 2 private plunge pools, a beautiful veranda to watch the sunsets, a comfy lounge area and a beautiful separate open bathroom. Our personal Butler Salum read each wish from our eyes and made our entire stay so special by surprising us with beautiful dinner options each day, bringing us breakfast & cocktails to our Villa & being super friendly but still very professional. One of our highlights was our private dinner on the beach with own exquisite Seafood BBQ prepared by Chef Emmanuel. The entire Management was really great! Andre was super approachable and was very helpful, professional but also hands-on. The beach is beautifully secluded in a dreamy fisherman's bay with honeymoon-grade beach furniture. The Spa treatments are absolutely fantastic (you must try the Zanzibar Sprice journey)! Self-speaking, everything super clean & the villa beautifully decorated with flowers each day by our housekeeper Flora. We can absolutely recommend this place to anybody - especially if on your honeymoon. It is a little expensive, but the experience you will have is worth every dollar. We will definitely be back! Thank you so much to the entire team once again!Guest review byMichaelGermany
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 9.2Superb - What previous guests thought, 304 reviewsAmazing stay !! There is no better Hotel in Zanzibar The amenities, the room, the food, the location and especially the staff, everything was perfect. There is no better location in Zanzibar, it's located in the northern part of the island which is much less affected by the tides than the rest of the island. Compare to the other hotels nearby, the Gold has THE best private beach, it's wide, clean, very well maintained and the deckchair are very confortable and spaced from one another. The room is great, the bed very confortable and the housekeeping will come twice a day, including at night to prepare your bed, set the mosquito net and spray it with repellent. Not once have we seen mosquitos in our room, a huge advantage for a peace of mind when traveling in Africa. The food at the buffet for breakfast, lunch and diner is just the best: savory, fresh, and the menu changes everyday. It's mentioned on almost every comment here and it does not disappoint. Definitely recommend to get half board or all inclusive. A huge plus : they use a particular mix to attract any bees, mosquitos, hornet.. outside of the restaurant, you won't be bothered there as well. The best part is yet the staff, amazing!! everyone is so genuine and kind its incredible. Huge thanks to Emanuel who maintains a breathtaking vegetable garden , he will be very happy to show you around. Latifah at the beach, Whadija at the restaurant, thank you so much. Congratulation to the Genral Manager for maintaining a perfect place with a great, great team! Thank youGuest review byBenjaminFrance
- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 1,406 reviewsThis year we spent our Christmas vacation at the Riu Palace Zanzibar Hotel. It was already our second Christmas holiday in this hotel. I would like to thank you for the wonderful days spent in this hotel. Where to start? From the beach (beautiful clean beach, great service of beach boys and security), bar and restaurant staff very nice, attentive. Yohana always greeted us in the main restaurant with a nice smile (we thank him for always a nice welcome). Food quality very good. A mix of Indian, Italian and international cuisine. In my opinion, the rooms are beautiful, stylish, always beautifully cleaned and smelling :-) Every day before going to bed, they prepare your room again. At sunset, have a drink at the Ginger bar by the pool and take photos. Unforgettable! Special thanks to the Assistant General Manager Mr. Ghosh. An excellent person not only as a personality, but also from a professional point of view. Always available and willing to help. Thank youGuest review byMichaelaCzech Republic
- From £144.33 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 7.9Good - What previous guests thought, 1,285 reviewsThe room is really beautiful, big enough for us. Equipment in the room is great,AC and vent was working, bed was good. The whole resort was beautiful and big and looked like a new. Way to the beach is through green yard full of green and lush plants. Beach is so long, you can choose sunbeds(with umbrella) for free, but they are too many so you have little space between them. Beautiful beach, great for walks, great for playing sports and great swimming. Friendly Masais at the beach,we had nice chat with them. Breakfast-they prepare a lot of food for breakfast, but I would say sometimes less is more. In overall it is great choice if you are looking for nice big place full of people. It is worth the money for sure(we had 3 accomodations so we can compare) you have nice big room, with nice garden and perfect beach. Location is great, near are restaurants, markets...Guest review byPavol SztankaySlovakia

Location is really good, right on Nungwi beach which is a nice lively area. Pool was really nice. Two restaurants served really lovely food. It was my birthday one night and all the staff came out to sing and dance for me. They also left a cake in my room. An exceptional hotel.Guest review byMichelleIreland

Truly enjoyed the pristine beach and the laid back nature of the place. Totally enjoyed several meals at Fish Restaurant which were absolutely delicious. I tried Kingfish, Changu, Perch, White Snapper, Prawns etc. The seafood was phenomenal. We also enjoyed seeing the turtles and the artwork at several curio shops. Also enjoyed an early morning boat ride seeing the dolphins. I can't believe how fast time went by. Looking forward to visiting Zanzibar again.Guest review byAnthonyUnited States - 10.0

Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Matemwe is near Mnemba island 🏝️ for swimming with dolphins 🐬 . We rode bicycles 🚲 around the village and the place felt very safe. There are few alternative places for lunch or dinner. Not too far from stone town.Guest review byYolisaSouth Africa - 8.0

The location is great, just a minute from the ocean, there are a lot restaurants both expensive and very local ones, no issues with electricity, hot shower and air-con and the safe box. Card and cash payment is acceptable. Very safe to stay and walk around even at night, the owner is very kind and trustworthy. Very basic breakfast but it OK, no TV and fridge in the room, internet is breaking so often especially in the room, but it works perfectly at the balcony. It is very budget friendly and highly recommend it.Guest review byRAHEL HAILUFrance - 10.0

Generally, a lovely and intimate establishment with staff that care for your personal needs. The manager is so friendly and always wants to know how the guests are doing. The most beautiful sunrises. The performances add to the spice. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.Guest review byMaria - 10.0

The snorkeling was a true adventure, with well-protected marine life and crystal-clear water. Spotting the dolphins was an unexpected bonus! Visiting the sea turtle rehabilitation center and feeding them was a special experience.Guest review byPetrus Van SchalkwykSouth Africa - 10.0

Long walks on the beach, swimming even during low tide. Some attractions are quite far and transport is expensive. Safari Blue Tour, Swimming with dolphins and turtles, Stonetown and the Serenity Spa were awesome. The trip advisor at the hotel assisted with bookings.Guest review byAndreSouth Africa - 4.0

The nearby beaches are scenic, but there are some important things to consider. The ocean is full of sea urchins, making swimming risky without proper footwear. During the day, low tide pulls the water far from the shore, so swimming may not always be possible. If you walk toward the reef, expect to be approached frequently by local beach vendors, which can feel intrusive — especially when you're clearly not carrying money. Local security presence is minimal, so don't expect much intervention in these situations. It's best to come prepared and manage your expectations if you're looking for a peaceful swim.Guest review byPappHungary - 8.0

It is the farthest tip of the island...about 1:20 taxi drive. Next time, I would stay on the blower east side where there are villages and hotels. But for first time Nungwi was lively offering many activities.Guest review byrosalie - 10.0

Matemwe beach was huge and totally uncrowded - some days we were lucky to see 10 - 20 people pass by! Loved the Massai beach hawkers - friendly and laid back happy to have their pictures taken - no hassle or relentless chasing - once told 'no' they respected our space. Recommend a day trip to Nungwi for a completely different vibe and fantastic sunset. Matemwe is somewhat isolated and if you want to get around you need to secure the number of a local taxi driver - always bargain hard beforehand. Most hotels organise trips/tours but at a premium.Guest review byAnonymous
