- Scored out of 10, guest rating 8.6Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 694 reviewsWe all loved TUI and had amazing holidays. We would definitely come back! The property is beautiful, has a lot of activities and a tropical scenery. Now to the specifics: The staff in general were super friendly and happy. A special thanks to Kelvin from the beach bar. The food was absolutely amazing, from the breakfast buffet, to the lunch in green & grill (paid, as we had only half pension), to all the dinner options - except Andiamo, see below. We specially loved the buffets at the beach and around the pool. We did 2 tours from the hotel which were great and the same price of outside companies. We strongly recommend the swimming with dolphins tour, that can be book at the hotel’s diving shop. Go in the afternoon when there’s less people. They take you on a boat and when you see dolphins you jump to the water! It’s a good workout as you do this multiple times to get a perfect shot :) The swimming pool is great and always had chairs available - great due to the low tide at the beach. This side of the island has the low tide phenomenon which makes it impossible to go swim in the ocean for some hours. But that’s nature. If you do try, take aqua shoes because there’s a lot of sea urchins. There’s free sandwiches, fruit and water at the reception 24h/day.Guest review byAnaPortugal
- From £402.36 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.9Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 385 reviewsAn outstanding Boutique Hotel in Zanzibar. It is located in a privileged location, and has direct acces to 2 diferent beaches. The rooms are enormous, with private pool, and cozy decoration. The staff here is very friendly and always greet you with a smile. The 3 pools are great, so is the restaurant area. A couple things to mention: it is far away from major tourist spots (which is good for me) bit has the Mnemba atoll right in front which is a plus. The only negative (just a little detail) is that food could improve in quality. Breakfast is awesome, so as the easy snacks you can order all day. But dinner food was a little bit under the overall quality of the Hotel. 9.5/10 would highly recommend.Guest review byDjalalSpain
- From £335.86 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.7Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 70 reviewsThe resort is wonderful, the cottages and tropical gardens look so beautiful and well-kept. The rooms are large, clean and very comfortable. I had half board and I can say that the food was very diverse and every evening there was a themed dinner and something new compared to the previous days. Very tasty food, many types of meat, fish, vegetables, pasta. Private and well-guarded beach with fine sand and turquoise water. I'm sorry to leave, but I will definitely come back here. About the staff, I can say that they were most professional, welcoming and friendly. I'm sorry to leave, but I will definitely come back here. Ocean Paradise Resort 🩵.Guest review byOanaRomania

Truly enjoyed the pristine beach and the laid back nature of the place. Totally enjoyed several meals at Fish Restaurant which were absolutely delicious. I tried Kingfish, Changu, Perch, White Snapper, Prawns etc. The seafood was phenomenal. We also enjoyed seeing the turtles and the artwork at several curio shops. Also enjoyed an early morning boat ride seeing the dolphins. I can't believe how fast time went by. Looking forward to visiting Zanzibar again.Guest review byAnthonyUnited States - 10.0

Matemwe is ideal for relaxing and spending quality time with friends and family. Matemwe is near Mnemba island 🏝️ for swimming with dolphins 🐬 . We rode bicycles 🚲 around the village and the place felt very safe. There are few alternative places for lunch or dinner. Not too far from stone town.Guest review byYolisaSouth Africa - 8.0

The location is great, just a minute from the ocean, there are a lot restaurants both expensive and very local ones, no issues with electricity, hot shower and air-con and the safe box. Card and cash payment is acceptable. Very safe to stay and walk around even at night, the owner is very kind and trustworthy. Very basic breakfast but it OK, no TV and fridge in the room, internet is breaking so often especially in the room, but it works perfectly at the balcony. It is very budget friendly and highly recommend it.Guest review byRAHEL HAILUFrance - 10.0

Generally, a lovely and intimate establishment with staff that care for your personal needs. The manager is so friendly and always wants to know how the guests are doing. The most beautiful sunrises. The performances add to the spice. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.Guest review byMaria - 10.0

The snorkeling was a true adventure, with well-protected marine life and crystal-clear water. Spotting the dolphins was an unexpected bonus! Visiting the sea turtle rehabilitation center and feeding them was a special experience.Guest review byPetrus Van SchalkwykSouth Africa - 10.0

Long walks on the beach, swimming even during low tide. Some attractions are quite far and transport is expensive. Safari Blue Tour, Swimming with dolphins and turtles, Stonetown and the Serenity Spa were awesome. The trip advisor at the hotel assisted with bookings.Guest review byAndreSouth Africa - 4.0

The nearby beaches are scenic, but there are some important things to consider. The ocean is full of sea urchins, making swimming risky without proper footwear. During the day, low tide pulls the water far from the shore, so swimming may not always be possible. If you walk toward the reef, expect to be approached frequently by local beach vendors, which can feel intrusive — especially when you're clearly not carrying money. Local security presence is minimal, so don't expect much intervention in these situations. It's best to come prepared and manage your expectations if you're looking for a peaceful swim.Guest review byPappHungary - 8.0

It is the farthest tip of the island...about 1:20 taxi drive. Next time, I would stay on the blower east side where there are villages and hotels. But for first time Nungwi was lively offering many activities.Guest review byrosalie - 10.0

Matemwe beach was huge and totally uncrowded - some days we were lucky to see 10 - 20 people pass by! Loved the Massai beach hawkers - friendly and laid back happy to have their pictures taken - no hassle or relentless chasing - once told 'no' they respected our space. Recommend a day trip to Nungwi for a completely different vibe and fantastic sunset. Matemwe is somewhat isolated and if you want to get around you need to secure the number of a local taxi driver - always bargain hard beforehand. Most hotels organise trips/tours but at a premium.Guest review byAnonymous
