Lovely Gulu City in Northern Uganda.
She is still growing. The roads are good, clean, well organised, with plenty of transport by boda and vehicles. Easy to get to by bus from Kampala and other towns, and easy to get around by car, boda, bicycle or on foot. Not polluted like other cities.
She has a lot of green places to walk around on the edges of the main city.
Gulu people are very friendly, beautiful and knowledgeable.
Music in Gulu is the most inclusive in Uganda and covers music from all over the country and internationally too incl Hip Hop, Reggae, Pop, Dance, in English and local languages including Luo and other Ugandan languages. Look out for Luo Nights at clubs for the best exciting traditional Ugandan music and exciting dances, which is world renowned.
Good entertainment in clubs, bars, restaurants and hotels serving local, national and international foods and drinks especially cold beers.
Gulu has the best pork joints in Uganda and also the best vegetarian restaurants, since the main food of Luo peoples are vegetable based, and also wild game and fresh fish from River Nile. Corona Pandemic put a near close to most things but it has started to open up again.
Gulu Main Market, which opens all day and late nights, is very good for numerous local fresh fruits and vegetables, and interesting traditional Luo crafts e.g. clay pots, baskets, whistles, spears, cloth etc. Other markets sell most of the above too, including many grains at Ceru Leno market.
Gulu City is an easy reach for tours to The River Nile, Murchison Falls, Karuma Falls, Safari Park, Patiko Fort, Aruu Falls, an easy drive to the mountains in the North and Kidepo National Park etc.
Gulu has many churches including 2 beautiful ones in the areas of Mican and For God, worth visiting if only for the architecture and peaceful environment.
