Seward was once the main point of entry to the interior of...
Seward was once the main point of entry to the interior of Alaska. While cruise ships still dock here, most cruise passengers immediately depart by train or bus on to Anchorage or other destinations. Seward still has a fishing industry, and many fishing charters are available. It is also the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, best appreciated by taking one of the many boat tours. We took the long tour to Northwestern Fjord, seeing dolphins, sea otters, sea lions and even orcas! Highly recommended! Seward has Alaska's only aquarium, the Alaska Sea Life Center. While not as large as say the Monterey Bay Aquarium, it still has an impressive collection of marine creatures well displayed. The exhibits are well organized. I especially enjoyed the aviary with a great assortment of birds native to the area. Seward has a reasonable set of restaurants, although travelers craving ethnic foods (Indian, Chinese, etc.) will be disappointed. Not surprisingly, fresh seafood is the star attraction in most. We were there at the start of the annual Salmon Derby, where hundreds of professional fisherman come from all over to catch the biggest salmon.Guest review byScottUnited States - 8.0
Homer is great for fisherman.
Homer is great for fisherman. We also took a seaplane into Katmai and Lake Clark National Parks. We spent 4 nights and it was perfect. Highly recommend the Kannery for dinner. They also had a great Texas BBQ food truck up the highway from the Homer Spit between Safeway and the Kannery.Guest review byJoUnited States - 10.0
Soldotna is a wonderful town filled with friendly locals.
Soldotna is a wonderful town filled with friendly locals. The Kenai River is beautiful with the best salmon fishing! In the end of July there will be fish counts of 200,000 sockeye salmon per day coming upstream, so get your hook in the river and you are bound to catch your limit by lunchtime. So many coffee places and cool cafes like Lucy's Market in a quaint bookstore with incredible freshly baked bread and Italian-style press-grilled sandwiches!Guest review byAnitaUnited States - 10.0

I looked at some lots, hoping to move there eventually. The peninsula is a hallmark of wilderness experience combined with restaurants and stores supplying all that you need. The Kenai Peninsula is a little piece of heaven.Guest review bySandraUnited States - 8.0
We liked staying in a cabin.
We liked staying in a cabin. It was very roomy and we liked the electric fireplace. My daughter liked the loft. It was close enough to the road but still felt remote. No TV, but it had a DVD player?? Shower felt like an RV shower. Breakfast was underwhelming.Guest review byMonaUnited States - 6.0
This property was noisy since it is right off a main road.
This property was noisy since it is right off a main road. The room we stayed in was an assortment of "updates" - had patch work walls, no light cover on one of the lights. I would say it wasn't the worse place we have ever stayed but not the best (specially for the price we paid). We didn't get much sleep the first night since it was hot, and we couldn't turn off the heaters or open the windows (due to the noise).Guest review byLaurenUnited States - 10.0

We loved the charter fish trip with The Fish House, highly recommend them. The Kenai Fjords tour out to the Aialik Glacier, another great company, visiting Kenai Fjords NP, Seward ATV tour ask for Porkcrop and crew, a fantastic trip on the Iditarod trail. Walking around the town and visiting shops was fun too.Guest review bySuper SueUnited States - 8.0

Small fishing village : would be a day trip , not a 3 day stay but the hikes and water activities kept us busy . Easy way around the main strip . We took a water taxi over to the other side of the bay to hike . This area is very expensive due to the fact that it is so far away from the rest of the world . Not value for money but breathtaking views for sure .Guest review byLinaUnited Kingdom - 10.0

The Soldotna Inn is centrally located between Soldotna and Kenai. It is an hour and a half away from Homer and Seward. The Kenai River flows through the city. Excellent restaurants, catering to all incomes, are springing up through Kenai and Soldotna. Nature is right outside your door. The Soldotna Inn is a quiet place to work or just relax. I found an unpretentious room at an excellent price, with a front desk that will aide me in directions, places to eat and things to do. This is the time to experience Soldotna in its growing phase. What else could I want?Guest review bySandraUnited States - 8.0

Moose pass is a great place to stay if you want to be away from the touristy spots. It is pretty and quiet. You will want to get groceries and gas before heading there though, other than a burger place and an expensive convenience store, there isn't much there. It is about 30 minutes to Seward, which was fine for us.Guest review byLindaUnited States
