FAQs about hotels on Martha's Vineyard
A Summer Retreat Off Cape Cod
The charming island of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts, also known as The Vineyard, is a famous summer colony situated south of Cape Cod on the Atlantic Ocean. Popular with keeping low-profile celebrities, the island is a perfect destination for beach relaxation, fishing trips and hiking the cliffs.
Accessible only by planes and boats, Martha’s Vineyard is a peaceful oasis, where one can truly rest in a no-fuss atmosphere and fantastic summer weather. You can start your Vineyard experience in Oak Bluffs, town in the north-east part of the island, known for its Victorian-style cottages and a beautiful harbour.
West from Oak Bluffs, there is Vineyard Haven, the main entry port of the island and during summer, one of its most populous tourist destinations. There you can rent a 4x4 and drive to see the Vineyard’s lighthouses, including the Gay Head Lighthouse in Aquinnah located next to the cliffs going by the same name.
Other island activities include horseback riding, cycling, golfing and, of course, sailing. You can practice the latter in Martha’s Vineyard’s town of Edgartown, an old whaling port and the location for the filming of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws.
Arriving at the Martha’s Vineyard Airport you’re just a short drive from all the attractions. Booking.com offers a wide choice of properties on the island: from hotels on the beach to accommodation with a pool.

- From US$562.97 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Fabulous - What previous guests thought, 90 reviewsJune 12 2025 A sunny and cool afternoon . I arrived half past 12 at The Richard. The scrumptious aroma of cookies filled the reception area , instantly transporting me home on weekends ! Then came out from the kitchen Ms. Kate, who extended a warm and enthusiastic reception. She said- " Your room is ready". She allowed me to check in early ! To my delight ! Helped me with my luggage upstairs. The room smelled clean and spotless, decor was contemporary cosmopolitan . Bedroom / bathroom has all the modern amenities ( although the building was vintage). I was tempted to take a nap, but then I was famished. I asked Kate for reco, and oh boy ! 19 Raw Oyster Bar was a pleasant surprise! It was just a block away from The Richard. Impeccable service and great food ! Going back now to the Richard- there's an outdoor courtyard with fire pit and comfy lounge sofa around, a nice touch to after dinner long conversation or simply seat there for peace and quiet. And a front porch with rocking chairs to people watch or read or relax. The Richard being in the mainstreet, restaurants , shops and everything in between are just a stroll away. Talking about shopping- almost all the shops have curated items that will make you regret shopping elsewhere. Which brings me to Ms. Ellen, at The Richard , who helped me solve my problem of needing 1 luggage to stash away my shopping haul! Surprisingly, there's not one shop selling luggage in Martha's Vineyard ! But Ms. Ellen was so kind enough to offer her own luggage ! She's a darling ! We wanted to do a photo shoot ( best friends celebrating 4 decades of friendship) she found us one professional photographer within the day ! Felt like there is nothing Ms. Ellen can't solve ! Always in her calm and composed demeanor. I've been travelling for the past 40 years. The Richard is on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever ! Kudos to Ms. Ellen and her team- Ms. Kate and Ms.Guest review byMaria ConcepcionPhilippines

Vineyard Haven was our least favorite part Martha's Vineyard we thought there was much more to do in Oaks Bluff and Edgartown. but it is an easy island to get around on so the location was not an issue.Guest review bywilliamUnited States - 10.0
Absolute gem of a town.
Absolute gem of a town. The people are so nice and it just feels like summer when you visit here. Great restaurants and beaches near. Great free public transportation offered. Neighborhood felt extremely shaved.Guest review byAdrianUnited States - 8.0
Nice small town , like most of Martha’s vinyard .
Nice small town , like most of Martha’s vinyard . It’s a bit in the woods, but that added to rustic feel. Just don’t do Nana’s treehouse until they fix the ant problem and put better curtains in the bedroomGuest review byChristopherUnited States - 10.0

There are a lot of things to see and do on the Island. We were there for a wedding and stayed 3 days, but we could have stayed a few more in order to take in the Edgartown side of the Island. The cliffs at Aquinnah are stunning. The history of the area is very interesting and the shop owners near the lighthouse are very knowledgeable and friendly.Guest review byJosephUnited States - 10.0
Oak Bluffs has something for everyone.
Oak Bluffs has something for everyone. Lots of great restaurants, the Flying Carousel for families, a beautiful Town Common to sit and enjoy the sites. Lots of lovely homes with gorgeous gardens. We really enjoyed Biscuits Restaurant for Breakfast, Nancys on the water for lunch and really loved the Midnight Tacos restaurant for late night drinks and delicious food.Guest review byAnonymous - 4.0
Terrible odour in unit and in desperate need of updates.
Terrible odour in unit and in desperate need of updates. Ants are crawling everywhere and floors are not levelled! Location and size of place is good. Hosts were unresponsive when these issues were raised. Would not recommend this place.Guest review byAnonymous - 10.0
The people are very friendly and quite helpful!
The people are very friendly and quite helpful! It's a beautiful everywhere! The Gingerbread Houses were spectacular! The food was superb. I bought the most delicious potpie I've ever had at a nearby farm store that I wish I could remember the name of. I also had the most moist and crunchy cod fish and chips ever. This was my very first trip to the island (that's why I can't remember the names, but I stayed at The Frankin Hotel Martha Vineyard, which everything was within walking distance from everything and I'll be returning throughout the new year and I plan on staying in Edgartown!!! Can't wait for spring!Guest review byB - 10.0

Oak Bluffs is a great place to stay if you're visiting the vineyard. The area is down to earth and accessible to both Vineyard Haven and Edgartown for a quick trip. Definitely recommend getting a late night donut from Back Door Donuts while you're there.Guest review byBreannaUnited States - 8.0
A very comfortable older home off the main road.
A very comfortable older home off the main road. Woodsy feeling which was nice and a very private yard. Not close to beaches and a bit of a drive to the closest town. There are stores nearby so that is not a problem. Pictures of the outside of the house do not do it justice! We loved the screened porch.Guest review byKatherineUnited States
