Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

The owner was very sweet, the room had it’s old style charm. Great that there was air conditioning. Breakfast selection was freshly made and served for us and it was very tasty. Location was great, just 2 mins walking down a steep hill to the old town.

SwedenVery nice location, near all important facilities. It was very interesting to chat with the manager, who told us about Albanias history and traditions and had much to tell about Gjirokasters recent history. We were a little confused when we arrived, since the name Flora was not on the sign. The manager was also helping us ordering a taxi and check the validity of the bus scedule.

AlbaniaThe house is a little old, which to me wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
Excellent location and just the best value you can get if you want to stay at the very heart of Gjirokaster, with the castle and the market both at a 2 min walk. Very friendly staff. Public parking is available outside. Good breakfast.

United StatesThe rooms come with personal bathrooms, which is really nice. This time we stayed on the ground floor, so our room's detached bathroom had a small shower wall attachment near the water tank at the entrance of the room. This meant one had to walk through the shower area to use the toilet, and following a shower, the water would pool on the floor near the entrance of the bathroom. There is a squeegee mop included in the bathroom and a fan, which help with water management and we made do just fine, but make sure that you remember to wear shower shoes in the bathroom to keep your feet dry.
This is our second time staying at The Fir Gate. Reasonable pricing and good location near the center of the Old Town. The breakfast is topnotch and was even served later than the 10 AM, which my partner and I really appreciated. (Jet lag and late nights can be hard to overcome!) The real treat though of our stay were the staff and owner of the guesthouse - who were very friendly and enjoyed chatting with their guests. We also enjoyed the experience of picking plums on the terrace above the guesthouse and drinking freshly-made plum lemonade. Our ground floor room was also nice and cool - a pleasant experience in the high heat of summer.

PolandIt is a great place with soul, you feel as you were a child again, spending your vacations in your grandmum's house. The host was the nicest we met during our trip (and Albanians are all very nice!) and we had some interesting conversations, I wish I could stay longer to continue them. The breakfast was very tasty, served on the terrace and the beds very comfortable. We will come again 😉

AustraliaThe check out time said 12pm but we got a knock on the door at 11am requesting to vacate the room for cleaning. 11am is reasonable we just weren't ready for it. The only other thing I noticed was that the shower curtain rail was attached to the light bulb wiring which seemed a little precarious. We had no problems with it though.
The family who runs the BnB is wonderful, really friendly. We sat out on their verandah with the main host and he offered us some Raki. Their breakfast was authentic and tasty. The room was spacious and had what we needed. Location was fantastic, easy walking distance to all the main attractions and the town. Their little dog Cappuccino is hilarious and a ball of energy (although they usually keep him out of sight from guests).

NetherlandsThis has nothing to do with the quality of the place but with the navigation towards it. Google maps does not work and points you to the wrong location. Make sure to search and navigate towards the cinema ( check foto). Behind the cinema you will find the street and the gate of the house. To park your car you can park it alongside the (steep) steet for free.
Friendly hosts. Great location and beautiful views towards to mountain and city itself. We also enjoyed a lovely Albanian breakfast. The place is authentic and we slept very well in this house.

CanadaWe had the room downstairs and we were really cold but we had lots of blankets to keep us warm at night. But the temperature was OK upstairs. The bathrooms were flooded (and there weren't any separation between the shower and the toilet) , when we took a shower, maybe a shower mat could improve that.
Very well placed in the medieval city. The hosts were very nice, we needed to leave early so they gave us lots of Petulla (albanian fried dough) to compensate the second breakfast we didn't take. The albanian breakfast was really good and complete.
