How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis hostel exceeded my expectations in every way. The rooms were really comfortable and well-maintained, and I was impressed by how clean everything was at all times. What made my stay unforgettable, though, were the people — I met some of the funniest and most interesting travelers here. Highly recommend it if you want comfort, cleanliness, and good company!

Verified reviewThe volunteers were so friendly and welcoming. One of them arranged an early breakfast for me since my bus went at 08.00 and my cab came at 0730 so that was so nice of them, thank you so much really appreciate it. The hostel is clean and good location! 10/10
This is not the hostels fault! But at night it can be hard getting sleep if you are a light sleeper since dogs are barking outside and music plays in restaurants nearby. For me it was not a problem but another girl in my room had trouble falling asleep.

Verified reviewJust a really nice hostel with friendly stuff, a nice Terasse and spacious rooms. Breakfast was good and we really had a great time with the super friendly volunteers! It's location is great in one of the old parts of the city. Lorenz garden and Amalia where great restaurants just around the corner. We left our passport at the desk and the owner was very helpful to send it to us in Saranda. Thx again

Verified reviewI really enjoyed my time at Maya hostel, you are greeted with a warm welcome and it’s easy to make friends as there are so many social events going on that you can participate in. One of my favourite activities was the quiz night hosted by one of the volunteers, Nick. I can also recommend the rafting tour run my Miri, the owner of the hostel. Fresh and local breakfast is served daily, which can be enjoyed in the cosy common area or outside in the garden, while taking in the beautiful view of the characteristic houses of Berat with the castle in the background. Ebony and Courtney both really kindly helped me with directions for getting to the bus terminal and were knowledgeable about the bus journeys available to get to other places in albania. The volunteers and all the staff do an excellent job of showing you a good time, answering any questions and hosting events. Big thanks to everyone, especially Courtney, Ebony, Nick and of course Miri. I will be back (hopefully sooner rather than later).

Verified review"I really enjoyed being there! It was a great stay with a great location, superb welcome, and friendly staff. The owner even arranged a tour that I wanted. Also, I’d say the hostel’s level is very high in many areas. They’ve renovated a lot of things, and it feels excellent there. Another nice thing is that you get a towel and tasty breakfast with the basic price. You can also play the guitar. Thank you very much for everything!"
Nothing...

Verified reviewIt's right o the riverside with a superb view of the rock with the castle and part of the old town. On that side of the river there are very few cars going. It's calm but still very close to the center. The hostel has a cozy atmosphere. The breakfast is good.

Verified reviewMaya hostel is everything you expect from a hostel when traveling, Miri the owner is really nice (even dropped me at the bus station at the end of my stay), he'll be an asset in your stay in Berat. The place is a traditional ottoman house and is kept spotless. The terrace is giving you an amazing view on the castle and the hill it is on. We even got to make a fire and grill some sausages on it. Every bed's got large curtains allowing you to have some privacy in the dorms and all the rooms are equipped with AC. Part of the staff are travellers staying in for a month or more so you'll have a family vibe arriving, everyone knows each other or will do very soon. Big recommandation on the Wine tour offered by the place, 30 quids for visiting a beautiful winery working with local grapes. Careful Albanians are a fun bunch and very generous. You will end up with more wine and raki in front of you than expected. Eating before is mandatory even if cheese, fruits and various snacks will be served during the evening. Aside Berat being a really cute place, it is the hostel and its staff that made me stay longer in the region. Thanks guys, I'll be seeing you here or further down the road.
