Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe only thing was that you usually had to wait a while at the door before they could come down and let you in. They usually are on the third floor and might not hear the bell. When you arrive, don't just press it once --hold it down so it can ring a few times.
This is a cool little spot in Luanda. The staff was great and communication was good. I think I slept 12 hours when I stayed there so I can attest to the bed being comfortable. It's a good place to meet other travelers and their internet connection was decent. If I went back to Luanda I would definitely stay there again.

NetherlandsThe staff is very helpfull and arrange transport to the airport. It’s also nice to meet other travellers in the hostel cause there are not many other travellers in Angola. Also great that they have a rooftop terrace and a bar. Good breakfast too!

SpainIt is difficult to find the hostel, they need to put up a sign that can be seen from the street.
We received a free breakfast of a tasty omellete. The staff were very kind and helpful. The price was good by Luanda standards. We were met at the airport as arranged.

South AfricaThe place is a little hard to find! Our stay coincided with renovations, unfortunately. But that means the roof terrace will be lovely now!
Gomez checked us in at 4:30am and was incredibly friendly and helpful during our short stay. A real gem of a man. The place suited our needs, which was a place to shower and rest during a flight layover.

GermanyVery friendly staff, going out of their way to make customers feel welcome. I arrived way before official check in and was welcomed with open arms. Loved the shaded terrace to relax! Strongest WiFi I had in almost a month in Angola. Also staff organised a transfer to the airport for me, which was bit challenging as I had a boxed bicycle with me that didn't fit into a normal car. I liked the location just outside the center, nice neighbourhood vibe, easy enough to get groceries and plenty eateries around, much cheaper than the expensive restaurants in the center or waterfront area. First night they upgraded me to a private room as doorm wasn't yet ready.

United KingdomThe hostel was very good. The guys, Gomez, Adriano and Eddie, were exceptional. They made my stay. They were so helpful. They would go out of their way to make sure I got what I needed. There was a nice rooftop area. Nice kitchen. The hostel is in a local neighbourhood which was a good experience too. Antonio, the owner, was on hand too. He was there to answer any questions and to help in any way he could too. He was born in an house two doors down so he knows the area very well. He spends half his time in London and the other half in Luanda. All in all, a very good experience. I’d stay here again.

GermanyThe mattress of the bed is not good at all. It is to thin and you feel all the time the wood under the mattress. You really have to upgrade that one, otherwise I would have given a 10 out of 10.
The employees of the Hostel are really welcoming and friendly. They helped me a lot with finding an ATM and the supermarket and so on. I loved the rooftop terrace. Still a lot to do for that, but the Hostel is quite new.

FranceThe hostel owner is an Angolan who grew up in UK and once worked as a teacher of the English language for many years in Asia. He is super friendly and eager to meet the needs of the guests. He is now turning the house he inherited from his parents into this hostel, so it is still fairly new and still in the process of refurbishment. The hostel is situated at the back of the Methodist Church of Bethel (Igreja Metodista de Bethel) in Luanda, so all guests need to tell their taxi drivers from the airport to drop them in front of the church, otherwise no taxi driver knows where the hostel is. Take the alley beside the church, then after 50m turn left and you see the two-storey hostel with its rooftop decorated with illuminations.

United StatesIt’s a down to earth place, staff is amazingly nice. The place is in a sketchy neighborhood, but it’s relatively safe, people outside leave you alone. It’s a 40 mins walk to the water front. It’s the only hostel in the city … breakfast is a little expensive for what they serve. Overall it’s a good place to stay.

NetherlandsThe bottom sheet had no elastic so it did not stay in place properly on the mattress. We would have liked it if there was some more information in the hostal about things to do, maybe tours for example to get some ideas of what to do in Luanda because there is not so much information about Angola on the internet or in the lonely planet. Everything else was fantastic.
It felt save, also the neighbourhood. People in the street are not yet used to foreigners so you have to greet them to make contact, but than you willl always recievea greeting and smile back. The staff is really nice, the go out of their way to help you. The first night the guy walked with us to the nearest supermarket. The breakfast is so good and big that you won't need to buy lunch ;-). The place lies perfect in a quiet street, one block from the main street were you can very easily take public transport minibusses. They go everywere and tell you were to change if they don't go to your destination. You can get pizza, hamburgers or normal dinner nearby the hostel but you can also make your own dinner in the kitchen. The wifi is great!!
