Room smelled of wood which was lovely. Nice modern room with new bathroom and excellent shower. Excellent breakfast. Perfectly located to visit the Linderhof, Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Restaurant service was excellent.

No tea of coffee facilities in the room and no water glasses. This was to protect the floor - which was actually showing signs of water damage from cleaning in any case! Very inconvenient not to be able to make a drink and suggested the hotel was more focused on protecting its building than on customer service. Dinner options are limited (no a la carte) and expensive - we are oldish and don't need a 3 course meal. As the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, we had not other options the first night but ate lunch out the second day and brought a sandwich back. Kitchen also closes early - and the food was running out when we dined and the staff were not willing to make extra. There seems a lot of pressure on staff not to waste food which is worthy but not when it means customers are just told they can't have what everybody else ate. Room was a little warm despite our attempts to put the air con system on low - not that it was very clear how that worked. Landed up having to keep the window open and then, of course, it got too cold so I had to get up and close it. Rooms are very poorly appointed for electric sockets. Nothing near the bed to keep a laptop charged.

I was concerned with some recent reviews but: the parking was free, the receptionist was friendly, the three course (half-board) dinner was excellent, and breakfast was good with plenty of coffee machines.

Long queue for check out. The waiter refused to speak English to us and gave lengthy speeches in German despite clearly communicating to other staff in English. Didn't use the pool as looked a bit boring.

The room, fully furnished with wood applications, the smell of wood is really good.

Not even a small refrigirator in the room. The beds & pillows are mid at best, can't say they were really comfortable. The staff (except for 1 or 2 restaurant workers) were not the friendliest I've interacted with. Overall the rooms look nice, the mountain view is amazing but compared to what you pay, one expects a friendlier staff, more comfortable beds...

    Location, pool and breakfast

Unfriendly staff/management. We were with 4 adults and 2 kids (10 and 3 yrs old) for 2 nights booked separately as my wife wanted to extend another night... Booked the extension 6 days before our arrival due to the nice area and we wanted to explore. Hotel responded with no issues for the extension.. Issue was on booking.com somehow miscalculated the number of people in both rooms we ended up getting penalized and had to pay a lot.. Money was no issue for us but this hotel is more focused on it. We choose this hotel as it looks very good in the photos and wanted to chill and relax but ended up feeling so bad and on how we got treated. Usually with this kind of issues in other places we stayed, the Hotel would find a great solution that would NOT ruin your vacation but this Hotel is the opposite, we felt so bad during our entire stay... I don't want to mention everything that happend as it will be too long... As I said earlier we booked 2 nights booked separately 6 days prior to our arrival.. Hotel made us check out at 10u from our first night to change room for the 2nd night which was not ready and had to stall our luggages and things at the reception area until the room is ready... Pool was also closed for cleaning till 13:30 Sunday, not mentioned... Our planning went to the drain.... No compliment drinks (water bottle as I see on their ads) no coffee or tea kettles in the rooms. This hotel felt like a tourist trap no way near an Austrian welcoming hotel like we are used to....

Dear guest, Thank you for taking the time to share your impressions with us. We are sincerely sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. Your feedback is very important to us – because our greatest concern is that our guests feel completely at home with us. We would like to clarify a few points from our perspective in order to clear up any possible misunderstandings. You booked your two nights via Booking.com with different numbers of guests – the first night for 2 adults and 2 children, the second for 4 adults and 1 child. As there were more people on site than originally stated upon your arrival, we were obliged to register the additional guests retrospectively and charge the corresponding costs on site. This procedure complies with the guidelines of the booking portals and the official requirements for guest registration. We hope that we have been able to clear up the misunderstanding regarding the charge. We are very sorry that, due to the high occupancy rate and popularity of our hotel, it was not possible to provide you with the same room for both nights. Changing rooms is particularly inconvenient for families – we would have liked to spare you this inconvenience. As already explained on our website and in our welcome letter, our pool has to be closed weekly for hygiene reasons, but we understand that this may have affected your relaxation. If our communication on this matter was insufficient, we sincerely apologise. We thank you for your candid feedback. Your feedback helps us to continuously improve our service. We regret that we were unable to meet your expectations this time, but we would be delighted if you would give us a second chance in the future. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us directly: 📧 Martina.Benmarouf@alpenhotel-ammerwald.at With warm regards, Your team at Alpenhotel Ammerwald

Beautiful hotel. Great location. Peaceful. Great breakfast.

No fridge in the room. Considering the location and the vibe, very basic pool and spa.

    - The free WiFi gets cut off 6 hours after arrival. Make sure you know how to spoof your MAC address if you want to stay online. - The car park can only be entered using a terrible intercom system that just rings and rings and rings until someone in reception eventually lets you in. Expect this to take up to 10 minutes every single time. Strangely, there is no such restriction if you (or a car thief) wants to exit the car park. - There are no electrical sockets within reach of the bed. - There is no drinking water provided (just a coaster with no glass on it). - The room is very dimly lit by 4 lights whose switches are pretty well distributed across the 4 corners of the room. - The receptionist (Thomas) was irritable and rude during check-in. We arrived in good spirits, but he really made the check-in process unnecessarily time-consuming and unpleasant. - The breakfast is absolutely awful. It's understaffed, so almost everything ran out. The bacon was charred black. A single (very slow) coffee machine serves the entire hotel, causing massive queues. The food itself is terrible quality and saltier than anything I have ever eaten in my life.

Lovely staff. The exterior looks nice. Breakfast was nice.

€50 for 27kwh is shameful. Exploitation in the highest order, most hotels charge around €0.50/KWH. This hotel is owned by BMW/Mini. We bought our car from these charlatans. When we expressed concerns about charging when abroad/away from home, the corporate message was loud and clear - charging is everywhere. The prices are similar to what you’d pay at home. We were genuinely shocked and disgusted that BMW would so blatantly profiteer from their own customer base. The chargers were 2/3 empty. They were not in demand. We should have realised the type of establishment we were in when we found very little in the way of creature comforts in our room - No kettle. 1 pillow. I’ve stayed in more luxurious hostels.
