How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewWe stayed here one night as part of a cycling holiday along the River Danube. The hotel was chosen for price and distance from the cycle route. The hotel is in a quite residential area. It is dated but perfect for our needs. Clean room. Comfortable bed. Good shower. Not air con but electric fan in the room did the trick. Staff were very friendly. Secure p on ace to keep your bike. Garden area to sit and enjoy a beer. Breakfast was included in the price. It was buffet and hot food. I would happily recommend this hotel.

Verified reviewHaving read the reviews, we were rather concerned about our stay, but it was a lovely surprise. The staff were friendly and welcoming; there were no cockroaches and the room was clean. The breakfast was good and like that of our other hotels. The dinner was lovely. All good. Absolutely nothing wrong with it.

First of all there were cockroaches in the bathroom! It isn't acceptable in any place. For that reason we didn't even want to eat breakfast. Breakfast itself was one of the worst we seen in many years of traveling. There was no hot food in the morning (no omelette, no sausages or anything), though it's always an option in other places. There were some really hard boiled cold eggs, some stale cereal. When we were ready to go, the host came out and asked if we wanted scrambled eggs. It would have been great, but I doubt someone would want to eat in a place with cockroaches. Also as an earlier review said, who were about the same time as we were. You enter a building through some gate in the back yard with big table, the main doors are closed and there were always sitting some restaurant customers or some kind of local people. They were drinking all evening, then in the morning. Also they were with more than few dogs and it was quite stressful for us to, because we are traveling with our own dog. I carried our dog on hands through them, they were always barking, jumping. Nobody even tried to pull them back from me. In any way, nobody felt comfortable that you have to go through all those people every time. The host was speaking a little bit in English but not that much so you could talk about the problems and inconveniences.
Dear Ms. Bitinaitė! We apologize for any discomfort during your stay with us. However, we find the possibility that you found cockroaches in the bathroom of your room unlikely. Nevertheless, we checked the room and found no trace of such pests. This is also the first time we have had such a complaint in 6 years. We also haven`t heard any other complaints from guests who used the room in the 10 days since your reservation. It would have been easier to clear things up if you had discussed things on site, so we could correct the error immediately and provide you with another room. Two out of four of our employees speak English fluently (Canadian citizens) and could have discussed this matter with you. For breakfast we ask guests if they want fresh scrambled eggs, this helps reduce the food waste we produce. Our Hotel/Inn/Bread and Breakfast (whatever you want to call it) is an Austrian "Gasthaus" and thus also a local pub. We apologize for any discomfort this may have caused you. The property is not in a good position for walking to restaurants. since it was sunday, there was not much open and we had to walk a few kilometers to find a restaurant.
