Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Everything was great! Great staff as well as the hotel itself. Convenient location, close to the city tram station! Also, there is a 10 km hiking trail to Lake Laudach. From the train station it is an hour's train ride to the magical city of Hallstatt. Overall, I recommend trying to come back again!

Room was fantastic. Very modern including bathroom. Bed was fab 🥰... so confortable. Even though I missed booked dates for the stay, they're very kind to facility me with a room. Breakfast was more then I wished for and staff they couldn't be nicer. Parking for free on the other side of the road. One think to keep in mind the place it's a bit away from the town. It didn't bother me as I love walking and been out. The trip to the town it's a must and takes approx 15 mind. To note: I didn't have food with them beside breakfast but the restaurant was buzzing all evening. So definitely sound of food Austrian food 😋

Had a wonderful stay at Gasthof Engelhof! The staff were beyond friendly and welcoming, food was amazing, my room was quiet and cosy, but more importantly clean and I assume recently renovated. The hotel is a short walk from the tram station Gmunden Engelhof, and easy to reach. Highly recommended!

If there was a small fridge in the room it would have been perfect
Very nice cute place, with friendly people running it, we found it a real Austrian countryside retreat. Breakfast was nice, plenty of options and they also have a very nice restaurant with a garden, food is excellent. They clean the rooms every day, and we had just everything we needed.

Little bit far from the city center.
Our Room was calm, clean and comfortable. The Staff was very kind, helpfull and polite. The breakfast was perfekt. It was a great choice.

We stayed in the huge very new and very clean apartment in the secondary building of the gasthaus. It had everything we needed, just wish we would stay longer and actually use everything the kitchen equipment had to offer. The breakfast was decent with good selection of options. Parking was nice and big.

Only one recommendation: would be nice if some tables and chairs would be one the terrace on the first floor to chill outside / relax in the evening and play games for example :)
The hotel is very nice and comfortable. The location is very centralized. The restaurant is really good :) and the staff is very nice and attentive :)

Cosy guesthouse with very kind personnel (I needed to iron shirts before a wedding and I could use their equipment!). Everything one needs for an overnight stay with a delicious breakfast in the morning :)
