How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThe hotel has a great location, though it is close to the main road, which can be quite noisy in the morning. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was fine, but nothing special.
I agree with some of the other comments here — the host was unfortunately very unfriendly and could benefit from adjusting her approach with guests. When we arrived around 7 PM, she was at reception but the only thing she said was that we should have arrived by 6 PM (this was never mentioned in the booking). The check-in took less than a minute. We asked if breakfast was included, and she replied it was stated in the confirmation — but it wasn’t. Once in the room, I noticed one mosquito net wasn’t fully closed. When I tried to pull it down, the entire frame nearly fell out, and I just managed to catch it before it could have hit other guests dining below. The next morning I tried to fix it back in place, and when the host saw me, she started yelling and questioning me. Even after I explained, she continued to confront me, asking, “Did it hit anyone or not?” Later at breakfast, she commented that we should have pre-booked it — something we hadn’t even been given the chance to do at check-in. From that moment on, she completely ignored us and didn’t greet us for the remaining three days of our stay.

Verified reviewLarge parking lot, no problem to park even a larger van. Good restaurant, very tasty food. Rooms clean and spacious. We would be happy to come back.
Breakfast could be a little more varied, but that's a purely subjective matter.

Verified reviewAffordable place to stay, the guests and the server at breakfast were very nice.
We came to Strobl for a wedding and arrived very late (around 2:30am) because our trains from Berlin were cancelled and had severe delays. This was already stressful enough, only to arrive with no way of contacting anyone at the Gasthof in the late hours (what about emergencies??). Our host woke up after we were talking below, desperately looking for another place to stay. She started yelling at us immediately from her balcony above. A friend from Austria, who had kindly drove us there from Salzburg when we arrived, stood up for us and said to her she shouldn’t speak to her guests that way. We were shocked that she didn’t care what happened to us before and continued to berate and insult us when she finally came down to let us into our room. She was so angry that she was not at all interested in our difficult circumstances as she made accusations and insults (we tried calling multiple times as early as 5pm, but bc we couldn’t email her sooner we became terrible guests in her eyes). Upon checking out, she asked us why we didn’t apologize to her (again, despite already apologizing upon our late arrival). She also asked us to apologize for our friend, even though he was absolutely right. (I think she should have apologized to us for losing her temper, we certainly didn’t deserve this treatment.) She was still very angry and began yelling at us, again. We were shocked about how a host can be so hostile towards honest paying guests. I actually had to point out that we still had to pay for the room. She continued to make false accusations and was only concerned about the sleep she lost, not at all sympathetic to our difficult travels, all because we couldn’t email her earlier and we couldn’t get through to them on the phone. I was traumatized after the second round of yelling, of course we never wanted to arrive so late! I cannot recommend this place to anyone after being treated so badly by the host.

Verified reviewVery kind and friendly staff; outstanding restaurant. Nice playground for kids; useful storage rooms for bikes. The triple rooms were new and fresh and spacious. The double room was obviously not reconstructed yet, which was visible mainly in the bathroom, but still provided enough comfort. Location was great, although not directly at the lake, bike routes easily reachable from the hotel

Verified reviewWe decided to stay here because we wanted a quiet location, close to Salzburg and the Gosau area as well. The guesthouse is very cozy, surrounded by nature, with great and kind staff. Breakfast was nice. Parking was free and generous. Oh, and the view from the room was simply amazing.
We stayed in room 1 and I think this room is right on top the kitchen because occasionally it got quite noisy during the day but that shouldn’t be an issue if you go out. It’s all nice and quiet during the night so you can get a good night sleep.

Verified reviewnice location and well furnished.
The lady who greeted us at reception was rude. said we couldn’t stay because we had a dog until I stayed we booed via Booking.com and that they were pet friendly and I had emailed saying our dog would be with us. Didn’t tell us where the rooms were, and stopped talking immediately after my wife and I said we didn’t need dinner as we’d eaten in Gilgen village which is a couple of miles away. Really put a dampener on the stay and as such we won’t be going back. if the owners don’t like dogs they should remove the pet friendly option as it’s clear they have issues with dogs and ours is well behaved and doesn’t bark - something I stated when the booking was made.
