How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewThis family owned and run hotel is managed with love and enthusiasm. The owners are "hands on" and completely committed. Our room was clean and freshly decorated with a light modern feel. The location is perfect. There is a large airy air conditioned dining room with well spaced tables and some dividers which create a more cosy experience. There is an international staff some of whome still seem to be learning the trade but all of whom share the owners' approach to guests - to be warm and friendly but professional - a very good balance. Our cleaning staff introduced themselves, worked around us for a cleaning time and checked everything was in order. In short the hotel is clean, and managed pro-actively. There is plenty of parking and this is surely the nicest part of the lake, with sweeping meadows and plenty of open space down to the lake with full public access. So many vilages around the lake seem in fact to be camp sites with a village planted on the back. Thanks to its long history and the Stift Ossiach is a real place. We attended an impressive summer concert at the Music Academy in the Stift so well worth checking out their programme which is not widely advertised. Perhaps above all I liked the owners and the management of the hotel. They are working hard to achieve success. I wish them well.
Difficult to answer because we left early because of the heat - especially the tropical nights. This was not the fault of the hotel and the owners were very sympathetic and understanding. It is not reasonable to expect air con in older properties in areas of the lakes and mountains where normally the temperatures drop away at night. But we did miss Rollos or shutters on our south facing windows and a fly screen on say one opening window would be an excellent compromise. There were breakfast cultural differences - I am used to eggs cooked to order and I missed a soft boiled egg at breakfast (there were hard boiled and dry scrambled). But there is an extensive cold buffet including cakes which were enjoyed by my Austrian husband. The absence of fresh fruit juices was perhaps a more serious omission. Even those from concentrate would I think be preferable to a machine which temperamentally mixed a fruit syrup (?) with water. On the other hand the staff at breakfast were friendly and welcoming and I was greeted in enthusiastic Italian every morning! A smile and a greeting can go a long way to compensate for any minor deficiencies. Anything else we might add must be relative to the class and cost of the hotel. You do not go to a three star hotel and then say you did not like the absence of a gourmet restaurant or an olympic swimming pool. The rooms do seem to be rather small and cramped but this is a matter of relative price and class. Although we were a couple if we go back we would probably take a family room or apartment. So the Booking Com over-simplifies with these categories! There are grey areas - and likes and dislikes must be relative to cost and what you choose to book.

Verified reviewThe room was comfortable, good-looking, big enough with a view of the lake from far. Breakfast was also good.
I dont like the location of the hotel, near to main road, and also it is quite expensive. And i did not understand the logic of ham / cheese catering equipment at the breakfast, which was very deep.

Verified reviewThis hotel is on the water front which is its main attraction. The rooms was modern although the aircon seemed 'limited'. Staff were very polite and helpful and could not be faulted. The reception area is extremely relaxing and the breakfast selection was excellent compared to others.
AirCon could only go down to 21C and seemed very mild in its effort - for the price of this room, expected better compared to others in the area. Parking for motorbikes was great, just parked right outside of the hotel.

Verified reviewGasthof zur post was a good value, and in a good location. The people were very friendly and the restaurant was the most popular place in town, which is probably a good sign.
The ambient temp was extremely high, even though outside was <20C. I had my windows wide open the whole stay in order to sleep. thankfully there were no mosquitos!
