How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Verified reviewThe staff were very attentive and the room was very clean and stunning. The location was perfect for travelling around the city and the dining area is very nice.
The room lacked an adequate trash can and refrigerator. The refrigerator only hosted items for purchase leaving very little room for food. Other than that, the room was great.

The decor of the hotel was fantastic it’s possibly the most aesthetically pretty hotel I’ve ever stayed in and the furnishings were detailed and high quality. You could spend a few hours in the hotel itself as the rooftop bar is open throughout the day which has a beautiful view and the restaurant is open for breakfast/day time meals and is also very beautiful! Each day the bed were made, coffee pods were topped up and towels were changed etc. There was a Bluetooth radio we could connect our phone to to play music and a tv we could connect YouTube or Netflix to which was good to have as an option.
Large cobweb above the mirror which I feel should have been cleaned before guests arrived as it wasn’t hard to miss. The ironing board is small and awkward to iron on. No menu for the mini bar or drinks in the room with prices etc. and no still water available. The toilet paper wasn’t restocked one day so we ran out, this should have been picked up on when the cleaners were in. Two single duvet covers on the king sized bed which I have not seen before, seems strange for couples. We had issues at the restaurant on the roof, ordered food which was fairly expensive and it was all cold/bland, and then when asking for the bill it took 40 minutes for them to find it because they had lost our table. Kept bringing us drinks which another table ordered and it became a frustrating experience. I’m not sure if the restaurant is separate from the hotel or if they are the same business so I apologise if they are independent.

It’s wonderful that you appreciated the central location, the warmth of our team, the design and atmosphere of the hotel, and that the little touches in the room — from the Bluetooth radio to the streaming options — made your stay more enjoyable. At the same time, I sincerely apologize for the points that fell short. The cobweb in the room, the missing toilet paper, absolutely have been taken care of during your stay. For reference, all minibar products and prices are listed in the hotel booklet placed in each room. Regarding water: we consciously provide only sparkling mineral water in the minibar, as Vienna’s tap water is of outstanding quality and perfectly safe to drink still. On the duvets: all of our rooms are equipped with two individual duvets, which is a common style in Austria. We understand this comes down to personal preference. With the ironing board, you’re right that the ones in the rooms are compact by design. Guests who prefer a larger board can request one at the reception, and we also offer an external laundry and pressing service if needed. As for the rooftop restaurant: Chez Bernard is indeed part of Hotel MOTTO, and I’m very sorry that your experience there did not meet expectations. Waiting such a long time for the bill and receiving food that wasn’t served as it should be is far from the level of service we want to provide. I will be addressing this directly with the restaurant team. I truly appreciate both your praise and your constructive criticism — both are invaluable in helping us improve. Verified reviewGreat location. It’s on Mariahilfer street (pedestrian zone with lots of shops). It’s 10 minute walk to the market (interesting food there) or you can take the subway to the city center (3 stops). Subway entrance is a cross the street. We strolled down the Mariahilfer street to downtown (cathedral) and came back by subway. Hotel has its own bakery with really good coffee (I’m a coffee fan). The bakery has a terrace on the Mariahilfer street. We finished the day in a hotel’s rooftop bar. If coming by car, a garage entrance (with lift) is across the street.

Verified reviewSuper stylish, modern and contemporary furnishings. Kooky. Great breakfast and roof terrace. Staff were great, especially the night manager who was full of energy and passion for Vienna, despite our time of night of arrival.
The gym, sauna and steam room is small (the steam room only fits 1 or a couple), we were hoping for more of a spa experience. That said, it was the perfect end to a day of sightseeing and no one else came in while we were there.

Verified reviewThe location of the hotel is very central and the metro station is just around the corner. Very convenient for sightseeing. The bed and the shower are all very comfortable. Breakfast on the 7th floor was also surprisingly good! Will definitely choose this hotel if I come again to Vienna.
