How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Verified reviewThe lady we met from reception was helpful. For example, in offering advice about the area, in bringing up a desk fan, and for kindly washing and packaging some clothes we had left on the balcony so we could pick them up later.
The hotel is right next to a busy road which turned out to be quite loud for our room which faced the road. As it was hot at night we kept the windows open, which made for two poor nights’ sleep. (There was no aircon or fan system for our family room.) The room we booked turned out to be rather cramped for the four of us.

Good day, Thank you for your review, it's a shame that you rated us so low because it's not fair and we can't understand it. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do about the noise from the neighboring room at night and early in the morning. This would be through their own moral courage quickly by knocking on the neighboring door could have been fixed :-) Our rooms are all very clean, well-kept and nicely and functionally furnished. You received exactly the room you booked. The furnishings and size corresponded 100% to the description and pictures. You would have liked to have been able to tell us that there was a problem with the bathroom door. Housekeeping was on site every day, and we can also be reached by phone or message if you haven't met anyone in person. We are always available at normal times of the day. Unfortunately, you didn't ask. We are a private guest house and not a hotel. Our reception is not staffed 24/7 and of course only as needed. However, someone is on site for several hours every day, but not always just at the reception, as we of course have work to do throughout the house on 5 floors. Daily housekeeping also took place. Your room was put together and cleaned daily. There is also an emergency number at night for real emergencies. All generous selection images and detailed information that were available to you before booking correspond to the actual conditions. Kind regards, The Platzhirsch team

Breakfast was never offered Likewise, they didn't ask about it or reserve it. Just because you personally expect or want something, you can't demand it from us and therefore rate us poorly and unfairly. I respectfully asked the owner upon checking in if we could get a fan (there’s a heat wave), have a desk (there was only a tea table and I needed to work), and remove the small bed (family room with a bed for kids which I didn’t need). I specifically noted that I just wanted to politely check and would totally understand if he/she cannot accommodate these requests. However, the unimaginable happened. The owner replied to me immediately with derogatory remarks and personal attacks, calling my requests “unbelievable, disrespectful, and cheeky” and threatening me that housekeeping would monitor me to make sure I don’t move anything. Seeing the response, I clarified that these were just questions and not demands and I just wanted to respectfully check, to which the owner replied with further personal attacks. Eventually, the owner forced me to leave the property. I had to scramble to looking for another place to stay last minute. Later, I reported the owner’s behavior to Austrian Tourism Board and Booking. The local tourism office summoned and reprimanded the owner for the behaviors and apologized to me and I got refund for 2 of the 3 nights I booked. I wish the local authority and Booking could ban this property or at least do more to protect tourists and customers from problematic properties such as this one, but there are limited things they are able to do. So please help yourself and avoid this property so that your vacation in Austria is not ruined. I’m sure there will be an angry, long response from the property owner, which will be a good evidence of the anger issue I’m describing.
Hello, you tried to play the racism card at the tourism office and Booking.com. This is sad, embarrassing and shows her character. Facts: They checked in in the middle of the night - it was already after 10:30 p.m. At night there is no reception staffed 24/7 in Europe. Due to late check-in after the usual arrival time, we have left the folder with key outdoors especially for you. You had all the information available beforehand. Even though it was the middle of the night, they expected 24 hour availability. You will have all your wishes fulfilled promptly expected and bombarded us with calls and messages. If you travel to another country, you must also find out about their customs and respect their house rules and regulations. We can only be reached on a hotline in an emergency, but that wasn't an emergency. They just wanted different furniture, just like if we were their decorator. They simply didn't give us any peace and quiet, they didn't accept a night's rest, they bombarded us with dozens of messages, over 40 of them at night, they terrorized us with phone calls and text messages and we said no, we definitely won't comply with your wishes and that's it not at all now in the middle of the night. This is not a rental apartment, this is not a furniture store where you can order furniture, this is an accommodation facility, we are a private guest house. cheeky demands, an incredible, disrespectful behavior from them. They said: "It bothers me that here in family room 1 third bed is we are only two people we would like you to remove this single bed. We would like to swap the living room table; we would rather have a normal table with an armchair and we would also like to have an additional desk. It's too hot in the room and we would like air conditioning or fans. However, they didn't want to open the windows and doors to let in the fresh, cool night air. We have told them several times not to terrorize us with all these messages. The hotline and the message function are intended for emergencies but not for your private sensitivities and pipe dreams. They just didn't want to accept that it was time for nighttime. We told them not to bombard us with messages. Nevertheless, there were dozens of messages and calls. After 3 a.m. our patience was over and we informed them that they had to leave the room in the morning. You refused and ultimately the police had to convince you of this yourself that we now use our house rules. We have generously refunded you 100% of the three nights you booked. We are not sorry and we will not apologize to you. But we would like to tell you one thing: we don't want to accommodate guests like that. Learn respect when you vacation in Europe.

Verified review- Excellent location, beautiful stylish Guesthouse - I fell ill and had to be rushed to emergency room. The hotel management allowed us an extra hour for check out so we could manage better - smooth easy check in and check out
- WiFi doesn’t work and even when we complained we were told that it does work. It never worked during the whole stay. - 2 nights stay. When we asked for a fresh towel we were denied. Towel to be offered only at an extra charge of 10€ - the staff was improperly trained to talk to foreigners and while explaining to my parents that they should check out soon, the staff kept pointing fingers to them in an unfriendly manner. - unfortunately very loud with windows open and very warm abc stuffy with windows closed. - old and collapsing mattresses didn’t allow a comfortable sleep.

Verified reviewAn excellent B&B place near the lake. Lake Wolfgangsee is 3-4 minutes by walk. Bus stoppage to Hallstatt, Salzburg is literally a minute away. Very comfortable bed, and everything was spotlessly clean. Check in and check out was very easy. Highly Recommend.
The reception was missing, although the check in and wifi information was clearly given. During our check out we just left the key at the reception. Breakfast was not available during our stay. We sent a text message to reception on Saturday morning and didn't get any reply. So I assume breakfast is not available at the property anymore.

We barely see the staff during our stay. On the day we check out, we want to check out at 8:30am and put our luggage in reception. But we cannot find the staff, and I called them without luck. So I left our luggage in the room. We are not comfortable to just leave the key&luggage on the reception. We left them a note on reception(explaining we have left our luggage in our room and took the key with us and should be back around noon). Then we went out for brunch. Around 11am, the staff called and asked me to check out and return the key. I explained we will be back around 12 noon. At 12:00 noon, we return to the reception and still find no one in the reception(apparently no one see our note as well). We are thinking if we should just left the key, but we decided to wait in a cafe nearby. Then the staff called my phone and asked me in a very rude way, she said “ we have surveillance and I saw u are back, just left the key in the reception and get out of the house with ur luggage” and did not hive me an chance to explain! Her altitude ruined our trip, we just want to keep our luggage and key safe. It would be more helpful if there is anyone in the reception and we can communicate our concerns face to face!

In fact, we have to honestly say that unfortunately you were very complicated guests. We are a private guest house and not a HOTEL. Our reception is not staffed 24 hours a day. You can't call us at any time 24 hours a day, but you've tried this at the most impossible times. They constantly locked the main entrance door with their key during the day. Because of them, arriving guests were not able to enter our house. We also don't understand why they kept trying with the key on our front door? In general, they had problems opening the front door at reception the whole time. It was a constant coming and going. Knocking, banging and ringing at the front door. Although every GUEST can otherwise do it on their own without the slightest problems, we constantly had to help. You checked out early in the morning at 7 a.m. The reception is not manned at this time. You had the INFO that you should leave the guest folder with key in a designated place. We still had to wait over 2 hours after checkout time for the room key. And the luggage was still in the room even though they should have left long ago. Unfortunately, there was a problem with a cancellation fee that should not be charged and after 1 month I still cannot solve this problem. Actually, property is not answering phone calls, emails and SMS, from Booking.com customer service or myself. I have accepted the fact I will lose this money because I cannot lose my time anymore, but this is such a bitter experience. Not coming back and perhaps not using Booking again. It’s not the app fault but at the end I booked though you.
Dear guests, although you were very satisfied during your stay, you unfortunately rate us poorly and unfairly. You booked two double rooms last minute, but none of them were canceled by you. It was therefore blocked and could not be rented to other guests. Instead of traveling with 4 people, they only arrived with 2 people. In addition, this was a non-cancellable rate with a very reasonable price. The room was empty for 2 nights and they didn't use it. The fault here is really not ours - we correctly followed the rules of booking.com

Verified reviewVery comfortable family rooms - more spacious than we expected. Very clean, and the location was pefect, right in middle of everything you want to be a part of in St Wolfgang. Kitchen was very well equipped.
The only thing lacking was an iron and ironing board which for travellers out of a suitcase wanting to have dinner at a nice restaurant was a negative. There was also no guest laundry facility - not easy to create a laundry but maybe an ironing facility could be added.

We try to offer our guests a pleasant stay with clean, comfortable rooms and a good, rich breakfast buffet with homemade and regional products Our house is several hundred years old and stands in one of the special places of happiness and power in the Salzkammergut. We live tradition and you can see and feel the touch of nostalgia in every corner of our house. At the same time, we are also trying to meet the new requirements and find the necessary balance.
