We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. AustraliaWe loved staying so much last time that we booked again as soon as we had a free few days. Being able to walk through Peter's garden with him and be able to ask questions (and buy some extremely rare plants) was such a joy. I learnt more and enjoyed spending time in nature so much. Peter is just a wonderful host and we are so grateful for him giving us his time and some wonderful plants.

A truly memorable experience. Peter has put so much love and attention into his mesmerising collection of plants from across the world, and it was an enormous pleasure to roam the gardens and take in the views. Gorgeous surroundings with pristine nature and lovely bird sounds! Peter is a lovely man, very kind and passionate about mother earth and good ol' fashion hospitality.

AustraliaFound toilet low and hard for the 80yr old to manage, so may need to consider grab rails.
Excellent host who gave his time to provide a tour of his extensive and magnificent gardens, private access and location, good car spot, we liked the 2 separate bedrooms, quiet surrounds.

United StatesWe were happy with everything. The third room is outside of the main house, depending on ages of guests, that may be something to consider.
This was a really special experience. It was truly an honor to get to stay at this beautiful location and meet Peter and his family. We really appreciated the tour around the garden and learning all about the rare Cycads. I definitely recommend looking through Peter's book at some time during your stay. Thanks again for such a memorable adventure!

AustraliaAt most stays, you are lucky to see another human and are usually just greeted by a key in a box. Peter's place is the polar opposite, we had the pleasure of being greeted by Peter and his 2 lovely grandchildren (which my 2 children loved), we were treated to a tour of his amazing botanical garden whilst listening to Peter's fascinating story about the transformation from hillside to botanical retreat he has created over the last 30 + years. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing, comfortable, and welcoming stay. We will definitely go back and stay again just to have another look at the driveway!

AustraliaWe spent the weekend at Ancient Gardens Guest House and Botanical Gardens while attending a nearby wedding—and it turned out to be the perfect place to stay. The gardens were absolutely magical. So peaceful and beautifully maintained, it was the ideal spot to unwind before and after the big event. Peter—what a legend. His hospitality was next-level. Super friendly, helpful, and just an all-around great host. You can tell he really cares about the place and the people who stay there. One of the highlights? Chatting with Peter about his incredible knowledge of cacti and cycads, and hearing stories from his plant expeditions. He’s a walking encyclopedia with some amazing tales from his travels, which made exploring the gardens even more fascinating. The kids were totally captured by the serenity of the place and loved learning about all the unique species. If you're looking for a chill spot to recharge, soak up nature, and be looked after like a VIP, this is it. Highly recommend—and we’ll definitely be back!

Omg this place was fantastic!! The owner was lovely (a local celebrity)and had the heater on and a fire pit ready for us. He offered to give us a tour of his amazing garden but we were disappointed we had to leave pretty early and couldn't do it. Guesthouse is fabulous- we wish we could have stayed longer. House is spacious with 2 bathrooms and a full kitchen. Beds were superb comfortable too.

AustraliaApple Maps on my iPhone struggled to find the entrance to the property and took us to multiple wrong locations! This can happen in rural areas but it was annoying. I recommend searching for the street address.
This was so much more than a place to stay - it was an experience in itself. Peter and his family went out of their way to make us feel at home in their beautiful guest house and gardens. This beautiful guest house was more than big enough and gave us everything we needed. The space was comfortable - as were the beds. USB points on the sockets were very helpful. We stayed for my husband’s birthday and he had an amazing time. It gave us a truly memorable few days that we will never forget. It was our first time in the area, but we loved it so much that I’m sure we’ll be back.

Peter was exceptional, he showed my Mum 86 who loves gardens all around his gardens. Mum was in her element, I also enjoyed the tour. His passion was infectious and he was a lovely kind host. He shared lemons from the lemon tree which were the most juicy flavoursome lemons I've ever tasted. We sat around the fire which Peter got started for us and enjoyed the quiet before heading to bed. The beds were super comfy and the shower in the morning was hot with great water pressure. I especially loved being up early to listen to the bird calls while the house slept.

AustraliaThe listing is a little vague in some details. The bunk beds are not actually within the main rooms, and you need to go outside to access them. I am not sure if you would want young kids to stay in them. But the property would be lovely for 1-2 couples in the main bedrooms. The toilets also are within each bedroom, so anyone staying outside will need to enter a bedroom to access them.
The gardens were absolutely amazing. The location is also very quiet at night time with no road noise around. It is a simple property, but it has everything that we needed. The host even gave us a tour of all of the plants around the property

AustraliaI was not keen on the outside bedroom where the bunk beds were located and my kids did not want to sleep there.. However, Peter was very accommodating and said they could sleep on the lounge chairs or even use the mattresses in the room and put them on the floor, which we did.
Peter, the host, was very welcoming. Soon after arriving, we were greeted by him with his warm smile. He showed us the accommodation and amenities, and we briefly walked around the garden. He told us stories about his garden, and we could see he was passionate about it. It was a lovely setting. Very peaceful and tranquil. The accommodation was like home from home, with all the needed supplies. We are all in agreement that the showers were amazing!!! Unfortunately, we didn't get the full tour of the gardens as on the last day it was raining and it had rained the night before. However, what we saw and when we had a walkabout, it was awe-inspiring, and to say it started just as a plot of land, you can see how much effort, time, and dedication Peter has put into it.
