Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty

- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

The atmosphere is very jail-like. I am guessing the hostel has tight rules due to past poor guest behaviour. Even though the rules are tight, I still suffered the experience of a seemingly drug-affected or mentally ill resident squealing and cackling from 3am until 5am in the common lounge/TV area, which unfortunately was adjacent to my room (there are no on-site caretakers - reception closed at 8pm). There are many nicer hostels in the local area to consider before deciding on this one.
The showers were nice and hot. Good water pressure.

The room didn’t have ventilation, which made it a bit stuffy. It had AC and a fan, but I feel it really needs a window. Since there are many people in one room, proper ventilation is necessary. The kitchen needs more organization and utensils.

Showers - everywhere wet on the floor and hairs , toilet paper to thin , the other guests were too loud from 12 to 3 in the night. We heard everything and couldnt sleep that much..

Bathrooms were always dirty and definitely not enough for the number of people staying at the hostel. The kitchen was also dirty most of the time even though I saw the staff cleaning lots of time, it’s probably just because of the people behaviour. The room was really small and the air conditioning above my bed made my sleep really uncomfortable. I tried to ask the staff to turn it off cause it was freezing and I was having a bad headache but they told me that they couldn’t do it. Paid for the laundry and someone stopped it so my clothes didn’t get dry. The staff was really unfriendly. I’d recommend you to go there for the bar, but definitely not to sleep!
The bar located inside the property was such a vibe! I’ve met a lot of nice people there and had such a great time:)

The cleaning staff threw my food kept in refrigerator which was very well labelled.lost around 10-12 dollar of food items…fruits,beans,veggies.. Bathroom is less in number ..for like 6-7 rooms there is one bathroom on ground floor which was locked during my whole day..there were other bathrooms in 1st floor which was easily accessible..staff in general is nice though..food part was really sad for me as it has never happened before in last 13 years of my travels…the staff also didnt care..

If you shower after 7pm you don’t get hot water. There’s not enough toilets for such a big amount of people

It is not that I did not like, it is more for considaration. The Bar in the hostel works till 12 am, can be noisy. Bathrooms are one or two for a floor. Also no bedlights.
Hostel is clean, crew is friendly. Tour agency at reception. Breakfast is amazing 👏. Location is very good, closer to train station than to The Lagoon. Plenty of communal space.

free breakfast everyday was good, also free dinner on select nights. lots going on in the hostel each night for entertainment, good ways to meet people. room was clean, liked the rules put in place to maintain cleanliness and how they were enforced. enjoyed my stay here and since staying in other hostels, have seen that mad monkey offers more than most hostels. would recommend and stay again or try there other locations.

There wasn’t always enough bathrooms for the number of rooms, specifically more an issue when it came to showers but sometimes toilets. A few long term lodgers.
