Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe fire pit outside was burnt through and unusable, cigarettes littered the ground in and around it. I understand that this wasn't the owners fault, but a clean up prior our arrival would have been nice. The bird seed jar was basically empty when we arrived, leaving none left for us to feed the birds - which was a selling point for us. A scratching noise in the ceiling kept us awake a lot (possibly a possum), but we informed the owners and they said they would look into it, which was good. There were also 2 empty containers of laundry liquid/powder which was a bit disappointing - either remove them or refill them. The larger wardrobe in the bedroom was padlocked, and the smaller one was filled with bedding, leaving us minimal storage for our clothes.
The cottage was cosy and clean. We didn't meet the owners but they were incredibly helpful in the lead up to our stay. The instructions provided were incredibly helpful. The location was lovely, isolated enough to feel relaxed but close enough to town to get what we needed.

AustraliaThe mattresses didn’t have protectors on them. All the beds were uncomfortable. Not enough cutlery we had 1 spoon and 4 guests trying to eat soup.
Location is amazing, the jacuzzi was hot and ready to jump in. The wildlife was so good…thanks for providing bird seed. That definitely was a highlight.

AustraliaThe site stated all day check in, which was important for us. However, a week prior to check in we found out that it was not the case. The wood logs for the fireplace were not dry and it took very long to start the fire. It was raining heavily and the rain leaked through the windows and doors.
Beautiful location and cabin. Isolated in the woods for privacy. Very tastefully styled. Clean and comfortable. Kitchen is very well equipped. Different teas available as well as coffee machine with coffee pods. Easy check in and out.

AustraliaThe driveway was quite steep and twisty, it was a little scary to suburban folks, but the sense of being right in the forest made it so worth it.
The sense of being right in the forest was so wonderful. The bird life and the wind through the trees was revigatrating. But the township was still so near for cafes and resturants, and to get those little things we inevitably forget.

AustraliaThe fireplace was a lovely feature, though we had to rearrange the furniture to keep our baby safe from it. While it took a bit of effort to get it burning perfectly without smoking the house, a canara might be a more suitable option for safety. Nonetheless, we enjoyed its warmth and ambiance.
We recently stayed at The Fernglen Forest Retreat for a 2-night getaway with my partner and our baby. Our experience was delightful, and here's why: The check-in process was simple, thanks to the detailed instructions provided by the hosts. We immediately felt at home in the cozy and welcoming atmosphere of both main bedrooms. We closed off the second part of the house. The cleanliness and uncluttered nature of the retreat added to our comfort. One of the highlights was the welcome guest rule book, which contained all the necessary details for our stay. We appreciated the well-equipped kitchen, allowing us to cook our meals with ease. The provided amenities meant we had everything we needed, including a baby high chair and a cot/playpen, which saved us from unpacking our own. The heated tiles in the bathroom were a luxury, especially with a baby in tow. Another highlight was the bird feed provided at the front door, which attracted a variety of birds. Our baby boy loved watching the parrots and cockatoos from the front window, which kept him entertained for hours. The TV with internet streaming services and strong Wi-Fi connection added to our convenience and entertainment. Overall, we highly recommend The Fernglen Forest Retreat as a perfect family getaway. The open living environment and thoughtful amenities make it an ideal choice for families looking to spend quality time together in a serene and comfortable setting.
