How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Having the owners contact me 3 Times during my stay about paying the money for the flowers which I already paid for whilst staying there. The owner came and woke us up about the payment. I showed them my bank transaction that I did pay (with a nice tip) to then continue to tell me about past visitors that trashed the cabin and using drugs This was not my concern. Then I got an email stating I was smoking inside the cabin. I emptied the ashtray that was outside in the fireplace. Wanting to charge me 220.fir smoking inside the residents.. Never staying there again.
We are sorry to hear that aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations. Regarding the payment matter — you had pre‑ordered a range of extras prior to your arrival. As per our standard practice and terms and conditions, payment for these extras is required before check‑in. On arrival and during your stay, we requested payment on several occasions. These requests were declined at the time as “not now” or “inconvenient.” When payment confirmation was still not received, a team member visited in the morning to verify the transaction before your departure to ensure there were no outstanding charges. We have this policy so that payment is finalised before arrival, allowing guests to relax and enjoy their stay without follow‑up, and so we do not have to chase payments. This arrangement is mutually beneficial for both guests and management. In relation to the smoking matter, our cabins are strictly non‑smoking as outlined in our terms and conditions. After your departure, our housekeeping team detected a strong smell of cigarette smoke inside the cabin, found cigarette butts extinguished on top of candles, cigarette butts in the fireplace, cigarette burns on a towel, and leftover seafood rubbish in the kitchen. These issues required additional cleaning, deodorising of the cabin, and replacement of damaged linen, which is consistent with our policy for damages. We appreciate your feedback and will review our communication processes to ensure our policies and terms are clear to all guests. remain as clear and courteous as possible for all guests.

Verified reviewThe tranquil location, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but, close enough to cover all attractions Coffs has to offer. Pristine rural surrounds with gorgeous views of upper Orara. Great amenities such as a jacuzzi, fireplace to unwind yourself and have a quality time with the family.
Phone reception was average depending on your carrier, given that there were no wi-fi.

We do update our hardware but its probably just the reality of bush living . We have people who reliably work remotely for the Retreat all the time ( like us ) . Verified reviewFriday Creek Retreat was an amazing experience. Whether you want to just sit back, take in the view and relax or partake in hikes and exploring the surrounding nature it is all up to you. Dianne and Paul were wonderful hosts - always on call if you needed them, but also very happy to leave you to your own privacy. Just book a couple of nights of luxury and judge for yourselves.

Verified reviewWe absolutely an awesome stay, it was so peaceful and chilled you could feel the stress just draining away from you when you arrived, the hosts and their daughter were so friendly, helpful and accomodating that you really had nothing to worry about, the extras that we asked for.. slow cooked dinner, breakfast, cocktail/champagne on arrival, fresh bread and more were well above our expectations, well worth the stay and most definitely will be coming back again
NOT their fault at all but the only thing we didn't enjoy was the drive out there especially the first night when we went to the pub for dinner, it's a pretty long windy road...give yourself a few days to get used to it and it's all good and you'll be driving like a local in no time at all

Open fire was great but a bit smoker. Not sure if you can do anything about this.

Verified reviewPet friendly. Cabin was clean and well equipped. Large bathroom with shower and spa bath. The veranda was nice with a hammock and table and chairs to eat outside with a view. Bed was comfortable and the location was good. Quiet and peaceful. Paul was very helpful.
Wifi didn’t work. A vacuum for guests to use would help when accommodating pets. A cabin with fenced area outside for dogs to be off leash would be a bonus.

My nightmare experience. Abuse from management. There facilities are not what's advertised. It was our fault there cabins had no hot water. It was our fault there foreign workers didnt speak English after being out right rude. The reception they tell you not to go is actually a storage shed with a reception sign. Plus we were being watched when its ment to be a private retreat. Accused of things we didnt do. Anyone giving this place more than 1/4 star clearly didnt have their eyes open.
Please read our other reviews . Our place was left an absolute mess after several hours . The cabin was flooded with water. The guest checked in under a different name to her ID . She was demanding , rude and aggressive . We are grateful we rarely have such guests.
