How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAmazing place to find your community. Probably the most social hostel I've ever stayed in. You'll inevitably make friends sitting outside or on the couch! Bathrooms and kitchen are cleaned daily. You get assigned your own space in the fridge and a cubby to put your groceries. Staples such as salt, oil, rice, pasta, baking ingredients, and much more freely available. Room 3 (female dorm with balcony) has plenty of dressers to put your stuff away. Nightlight for each bunk. The area is great, so many amazing restaurants, pubs, cafes and thrift stores just around the corner. Definitely stay here if you are new to the area and looking to make friends. And especially if you're doing a WH (most of the guests are in the same boat and are happy to share tips and support).
Mattress was a bit hard but not too bad. Showers ran out of hot water at times.
Hey there, Thanks so much for your thoughtful and generous review — we’re stoked to hear you had such a great time with us! We’re especially glad you found the social vibe welcoming and the community strong — that’s exactly what we aim for. It’s awesome to hear you made new friends, enjoyed the common spaces, and appreciated the little touches like individual fridge space, pantry staples, and a comfy setup in Room 3. And yes, the local neighbourhood is a gem — always something good around the corner! We really appreciate the heads-up on the hot water and mattress — the hot water issue has now been sorted and the showers are back on track. We’re also planning a mattress upgrade very soon, so future stays should feel even comfier. Thanks again for choosing Landing Pads — we loved having you and wish you all the best on your working holiday journey. Cheers, The Landing Pads Crew

Verified reviewI stayed in Landing Pads for four weeks and I had a great time there! Staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The place was kept cozy and clean. The other guests were respectful of each other and the house rules, and we had great fun with all the social events inside and outside the hostel! I definitely recommend Landing Pads to anyone coming to Melbourne!

Verified reviewI've stayed in quite a few hostels throughout the years, but this is the first time I was in a place that gave me so much 'being home' vibes. Everyone (from staff to other backpackers) were very friendly and would always find a way to spend their time together. Location was also great, specially if you wanna enjoy what Brunswick has to offer. Special shotout to Guily and Lina for making mine and Mariana stay even more enjoyable. When I'm back to Melbourne, I'm definitely staying with Pads hoping I can meet some familiar faces again.
Nothing really comes to mind.
Thanks a bunch for your kind words Mariah! We absolutely loved having you here. It's a shame you could only hang out for a week, but fingers crossed you'll swing by again soon. Just imagine how amazing Brunswick is in the summer if it's already awesome in winter! Will make sure Landing Pads stays as the safest and most enjoyable home. Cheers, Guilly, Lina & Landing Pads Brunswick Crew

Thanks a lot for appreciating it, Ella. Here at Landing Pads we're always improving to stay on top. Being in a traditional Victorian house at the heart of Brunswick is awesome but also means constant work. Just upgraded our door locks and washing machines! Hope your trip back was safe and that we'll see you again someday :) Cheers, Guilly & Landing Pads Crew

Verified reviewAlmost anything from the hostal is amazing. People is nice, they have a cheap laundry/dry system, there is certain activities during the week and the beds are comfortable. They store lost objects, so you can recover them, the water system is good, and you have hot water for washing and bath. There are a lot of stores and supermarkets near the area, so, it's a huge advantage.
Small details, the wash n dry systems need coins, so, if you don't have cash, it is hard to use it. The kitchen is a little bit small for the amount of people and some beds don't have curtains, but that's all.
Hey Jose, thanks heaps for your honest feedback. We've just upgraded the washers to amazing new cashless ones. The tradies also swung by and replaced the curtains and locks! And Yeah, even with two fully equipped sets of stoves, it can get a bit hectic sometimes. Also, thanks for acknowledging it: Safety and cleanliness are our top priorities, which is why we've developed systems like Lost Property. Hope your adventures bring you back to the best hostel in Melbourne. Safe travels until then!

Verified reviewI originally booked for 1 week…ended up staying over a month. It’s an older house with some cosmetic issues, but the homey feel and people made it hard to leave. It is a working hostel, so it was nice that they hosted a job seeker workshop to give some insight into what the Aussies are looking for. Made some amazing friends who were had the same relative goals and not party 24/7. Love the family dinner night and programming. Shout out to Arnie and his amazing spa night that was 1000% needed. The staff were cleaning warriors and Amanda has a killer work setlist.
The pros wayyyy outweigh the negative, but the air flow sucked in the rooms. We had a balcony door so that helped a lot. It’s also a house so be prepared to have to wait for bathrooms at busy times. Also if you want to be close to all the action it’s 30min tram to city, 1hr to at Kildare, and 1.5th to half moon bay so factor transit $$ in your decision, but you’ll love it. Just sit at the picnic tables and you’ll make friends in no time
Hi Tania Thanks so much for the great review — we’re really glad you embraced the hostel charm and made the most of your time with us! That homey feel, the shared spaces, and the amazing mix of people are what make this place special, and it’s awesome to hear that came through during your stay. Whether it was the job seeker support, social nights, or just meeting great people at the picnic tables, it sounds like you got the full Landing Pads experience. Big thanks for the shoutouts to the crew — Arnie and Amanda will be thrilled! Hope to see you again on your next trip through Melbourne! – The Landing Pads Crew
