How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Hostel vibe was ruined by one long-term older guest acting like she owns the room. Complaining about people chatting (can't even before 10pm on weekend), about windows, about everything – honestly, hostels are for social travelers, not for people who can’t handle normal noise. Unless management addresses this, the “youth hostel” vibe just isn’t there.

The dorm I stayed in (1st floor) was nice and quiet even though other guests were having fun downstairs. The staff were friendly and helpful.

There were limited access to toilets because they were often out of service. It would be nice if the staff would check the toilets more regularly to ensure that they are working properly and that there are sufficient toilet paper which we ran out of one night.
We had our private room for 2 with AC, slept really well, it was quiet and peaceful. Easy access to everything and close to main attractions. Everyone very respectful and fun.

Small kitchen area, and the AC in the rooms were ON only when the lights were ON

I would have liked there to be some more single gender showers rather than mixed gender. Some more fridges would be good too as they were very packed and it was hard to find my stuff.
Private room was nicely decorated! Staff at the front desk were very friendly. Location was great for getting to the University of Sydney.

Kitchen and rooms are a bit small and often crowded.
Friendly and social hostel with nice staff. Goof facilities and the included gym access was a great plus.

The Mad Monkey Broadway is a good hostel, the housekeeping is done every day and the staff is very kind and attentive to your requests ! The strong point about this hostel is the atmosphere, there are events organized almost every day which makes the hostel really lively! The hostel is very well located, we recommend this place!

Room 11 has a very strong chemical smell, I kept the fan on but it had little work. Cleaning 2 times before 10 am between June 15 -19, waking everyone up until they done the cleaning. Fridge not big enough.
Clean, big and comfortable beds. Nice and helpful staff, helps carrying luggages up and down stairs. Provides short term luggage storage service after checking out. Big shower room and enough hot water. Great location, close to shopping center and bus stop.

Nobody was at the reception. I was waiting outside for around 20 minutes. The personal wasn't kind.

Kitchen was very small and pokey and everything is pretty old but all in all pretty good.
Having a physical person to check you in, even after hours. Room was quiet all be it very small. Beds were actually comfy even though old wooden bunks. Good amount of amenities

When we arrived our room smelt of feet and the beds were extremely uncomfortable, worse bed I've ever slept in I am glad it was only for one nught
Bathrooms were modern and clean, room was nice and one of the cheapest hostels I could find in Sydney at the time. I would come again staff were be very nice and they had music bingo during our stay. Overall nice hostel
