How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Our view was lack lustre due to the pool undergoing refurbishment. Unfortunately, there were issues with the lifts causing delays
We had requested a room with a view if possible and away from the lifts. This was met to a point. The buffet breakfast provided variety, nutritional options and great coffee

The pool was under renovation, an email or notification before our stay would have been nice, so that we didn't avoid disappointment on arrival. Also, valet parking at pick up was a bit disorganised. One lift working for a busy weekend was a little annoying too.
Rooms were clean. Beds were comfortable. Food was nice and atmosphere was nice. Walking distance to many attractions in Melbourne too.

The lifts weren’t working properly and the pool area was closed - this only happened after we already booked and we weren’t notified. Was very disappointing as I specifically booked his hotel because it had a heated indoor pool
Bar area was lovely comfortable and spacious also loved the bathrooms had bath not shower only

Better maintenance of room. Finish the construction works in the shopping arcade area.
Great location close to CBD and train station. Good breakfast. Eventually after a room change (due to some maintenance issues with uneven carpet and loose desk support posts), the new room was good size, clean and good view. Proximity to fire exits and what appear to be fire doors locking off parts of the quite long corridors between rooms looks to be a good safe approach.

The fact that the swimming pool was being repaired. One of the reasons I chose the hotel was because of the availability of a swimming pool. I did not receive any indication that it would not be available
The location was very good. The room was a good size, comfortable and very ventilation/heating system worked well. The breakfasts were good but quite expensive. I don't know if there was a continental only option.

The only issue was when we arrived and tried to park for the Valet parking. Unfortunately all the parks at the front had been taken and when we called they must have been busy as no one answered for quite some time. We had to circle the block a few times (on Collins St this is a drama in itself) before someone answered the phone and cleared the space for us to park.
Great service, friendly staff and comfortable room.

There was only one lift working on the property which was the same as the previous stay. The television only showed the local networks which we asked each day to be rectified without any response each day. The staff didn’t seem to care.

the walk from the elevator to our room was - longish - but we were advised prior and it was just fine, no issue at all. booking in was a bit slow and some of us struggled with communication misunderstandings. But one of the staff knew that we were all together and that we had already paid etc so he set the others straight fairly quickly.
location was perfect as we were able to walk to really nice shops, eateries, events and even go for a morning walk along the Yarra. room was clean and plenty big enough with a couch and a desk - perfect bed was super comfy.

Don’t know who to blame but the first lift to the upper 3 floor wasn’t working so climbing 31 steps five times in the first day did a lot for the cardio and my wife. And had to take some points of for finding 3 slithers of broken GLASS in the bathroom

Only a white woman staff who work at reception on the day we checked in on July 10 was not ready to worked made us waiting more than 2 hours with out informed us until we went to asked another staff ,finally we could checks in.

For a brand like Novotel expected better. 1. Had to wait a while to get a table for included buffet breakfast and then when we did get a table it was so busy and they were so under staffed that had to wait on food items. Not the end of the world but not the level we would expect. 2. Pool has tiles loose around the edge
