The hosts Russell and Van are wonderful. They graciously made a delicious cake for my arrival and left me farm fresh eggs and fruit. The location is totally peaceful and serene. The deck looking over the river is a winner. The shack is well located to drive up to Southport and Dover or down to Cockle Bay for a the South Cape Bay walk. Cockle Bay is a super lovely place to have a swim.

Very cool place. This place rates amongst the best cabin stays we've had in Tassie or otherwise. Not flash, not supposed to be, but cosy and well appointed. It sits well in a classic beautiful Tassie bush block. Native gardens and bush all around you with sensational views across the water. They've thought of everything, at least everything we needed. Off grid, with solar energy and storage, the cabin is a testimony to the owners' wide range of skills, building and general know-how. Built with timber from the property, it's comfortably furnished and decorated in a quirky way. We cooked our dinners on the bbq and the kitchen facilities were more than adequate. Shop for yr food before you come, no IGA around here, so get yr food for meals in Hobart or Huonville. Southport is nearby for emergencies and fuel and a tavern meal if that's yr go. A wood burner kept us cosy in the late arvo and evening. Heaps of walks and top beaches in the area within a half hour drive, especially around Cockle Creek area. Bracing, calm ocean water for swimming. Russell and Van live nearby but you wouldn't know it. If you like a Tassie bush stay, you'll like this place.

Location was great. Fresh eggs from the property and a fresh cake baked by Russell's wife waiting in the unit on our arrival. The view was to die for.

There wasn't anything we didn't like.

The view is amazing! Loved the quirky touches and the construction is excellent, the only air leak we noticed was in the bathroom.

The weather was exceptionally cold for the time of year we stayed. We did have the fire going when in the cabin but had to be sitting right in front of it to feel the warmth. More hot water bottles would be useful so you can warm the bed up more. The huge windows are beautiful and give you a gorgeous view of the water, but if it’s cold you can’t sit in the lounge to enjoy the view as it’s too cold. Another fireplace in that area would be great and double glazing or thicker curtains on those windows would help to feel cosier.

The location is magnificent, lots of bushy land running down to the water. Hosts were fantastic! Fresh cake on arrival and fresh produce from the garden even though it was winter - kiwi fruit, lemons, passion fruit … and we were invited to help ourselves if we needed spinach, herbs - anything that was in season basically. On site hosts were welcoming and helpful - but not invasive. Stacks of firewood for the wood burning stove. Games, books to read … house is off grid, but good internet - no TV.

It was cold and it took a while to work out how to manage heating and hot water. No conventional oven, but there was a microwave and cooktop.

Location was fantastic. A secluded lakeside cabin nestled in the bush surrounded by lots of furry animals. Host went the extra mile making up some cake bread and leaving some fresh apples. Checking in was easy and straight forward which was great because we arrived so late. Only wish we had more time to spend there!

    Loved everything!

Wonderful , quiet location overlooking the Hastings Basin. Provision of eggs and home made cakes was most welcome. Accommodation was full of interesting objects and tastefully done up.

Would have liked a conventional oven.

food was great. We were left with a lovely cake, eggs, passionfruit, and the pantry was useful, even though we did bring a lot of our own food. Owner left a wheelbarrow full of wood each night for the wood burning heater which was very nice. created a nice atmosphere and kept us cosy and warm. Loved being able to head down to the water and collect the oysters.
