How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Verified reviewAuthentic rustic miners hut with cosy vibe in a great location. Fire place and gas lights really made it feel cosy. Comfy couches and some genuine charm makes this place a great option for a romantic weekend away I'd say.
So i did like it ..but ..for the price I felt it was a bit under done. The only heating option is wood, howevwr you either need to bring your own or pay $30 for it. It's also BYO bedding and pretty cold out the back where the beds are. Shared bathroom with glamping site attached to the side kind of diminishes the cosy private vibe of the cottage (and i dont think the shared aspect was obvious from the description), as does having to enter and exit the property in front of the main house on the block. No power supply beyond a 5v USB port, no fridge, and while quite functional, pretty limited cooking facilities. To be clear, none of these things were game stoppers on their own (and almost all were noted in the description), but when you put them together, i couldn't help but think that the $125 per night rate was a bit pricey for what you get.
Hi Chris thanks for the review. The accommodation you booked is on a private property and is offered as an off the grid back to basics experience with the essential creature comforts in a beautiful relaxing bush setting. Its not a motel. Everything you noted in your review is clearly defined in the listing and it’s probably the lowest cost option in the area. possibly next time (for $200PN) you may be more comfortable at the motel Cheers Paul.

Verified reviewWe brought our own breakfast, bedding & towels Milk, tea & coffee provided Good range of wonderful cafes in nearby towns. Great location surrounded by nature Cabin was comfortable and basic equipment supplied
We found the cabin a bit dusty. Stone path to toilet and bathroom was uneven and a potential trip point
Thanks for the review. We are in the process of re doing the path to the bathroom.

Verified reviewWe loved the rustic little cottage! Very peaceful & with gorgeous outlook. Was so nice having an open fire. Kitchen had all you need (though do bring ice) & bathroom was better than expected. Highly recommend if you’re not fussy & want a country getaway.
The USB charger didn’t work for us & the cottage got a bit smoky but possibly both issues (which were minor) were due to user error!

Verified reviewGorgeous spot in the Chewton Bushlands surrounded by birds, kangaroos, and a lovely black labrador who wanders around. We had endless hikes, peace and quiet, rest, and proximity to all that is Castlemaine. Very comfy, no 240volt so adapted to battery phone charge, LED lights, worm fed toilets, very eco !! Loved it.
Some creature noises at night--shared bathroom ok. Glamping nearby is pretty groovy.

Verified reviewWe loved that we were off grid in such peaceful surrounds. The cottage was surprisingly warm considering the weather outside. And was cute with everything you needed. We really felt like we had gotten away from it all. We did get to see some kangas come nearby. It was good to know Paul was only a phone call away if we ran into trouble.
There could have been more instructions around the place like how to use the usb charger and how to build a fire if you didn’t already know. The ambience fire was hard to get going - even for ambience, but the barrel fire was great - it really kept the place warm. I’m glad we didn’t have any glampers nearby because we would have heard them using the bathroom. It took a while for the “untrusting” me to accept there were no locks on the doors and that we and our things would be safe. But everything was very safe.

Verified reviewThe Rustic Miners Cabin lived up to its name - it was fabulously rustic! Overall the properly was very well maintained, with beautiful views, especially from the couch on the front verandah. The cabin is beautifully crafted with stone and mud walls, timber roof and stone floors. All the decor fit into the miners theme and were a feast for the eyes.
A few items could do with a clean (utensils and benches) and the single bed is very squeaky.

Verified reviewThe cabin was in a lovely setting in a wooded area on the farm and very peaceful
. However it said bring bedlinen which we did. But when we got there we found there were no pillows, doonas or blankets. We assumed they would be provided. There was also a requirement to pay for any wood used. I just felt that it did not really feel welcoming with requests for the payment for wood and no bed covers or pillows. There was no fridge due to no electricity. We knew this before we went but felt the cost was not matched to the facilities.
